I have been using Delicious Library since I acquired a copy with the original MacHeist.

Recently, I received a copy of Librarian Pro in a bundle offered late last year, but I have not put it to use as yet.

I have really liked using Delicious Library, but wish I could easily add custom categories.  I have large collections of books, CDs, Video Games, and DVDs.  Without a good data base, things have a tendency to wander off, never to be seen again.

What do you use for maintaining your media libraries?

Delicious Library 2 offers a lot more than version 1 that came with MH. I just upgraded mine over the weekend for $10 using a coupon found in the deals thread here - some goof up happened in the licensing process (on my side and maybe on their side as well), but the Delicious folks were very responsive to my query and sent me a license for 2.x.

I hava used Readerware for cataloging my books, CD's and what I had of movies. But when you mention this, I can't even recall when I last did an entry. Must have been a long time ago. So it's not up to date anywhere near. I tested some other things at a point as I was thinking of switching as there were no compatibility to use the inbuilt webcam in MBP for instance to read of the ISBN numbers for books in Readerware, but then I gave up looking for another software as it didn't feel 100%. So another time when feeling for doing more of that kind of organizing I'll check up again and see how the market looks, who knows Readerware might have been upgraded too.

I tried Delicious Library 2, Librarian Pro, DVDpedia and KavaMovies, but they all had various issues. While DL2 has the only properly working iSight barcode reader, it can't find international products that well. I didn't like DVDpedia and KavaMovies at all. They are not suitable for handling a library. You can't create additional fields. DVDpedia's search functions are terrible.

I'm between DL2 and Librarian Pro, too. I don't have a license of any of them. I just tried the demos.

I've been using Librarian Pro from the previous bundle and it does what I need, but that’s probably pretty basic.

I am unaware of the Readerware application.  I may have to download it and compare it to Delicious Library, which is the only one I have any experience with.  Does it provide a graphical representation, or text-only?

I have always been impressed with the visual aspect of Delicious Library, for viewing my catalog list.  I do not have an iSight camera, so I cannot speak for the use of one for barcode reading, but I tried it with a mini DV cam, and the results were pretty mixed.  I don't even bother with that any more.

As I said previously, the biggest problem I have with Delicious Library is the inability to add in additional data bases.  I would like to be able to inventory more than just Books, CD, DVD, and Games.  It would be nice to be able to have separate databases as well.  I have not tried DL2 yet.

I have used DL for awhile now and love the way it works.  Plus being able to export my library to a website has come in handy to make sure I don't duplicate any purchases.

I like Delicious Library and with the coupon floating around it is well worth the $20 pricetag. $40 was too much for me to justify before personally but having used the program a bit, it really is one of the simplest ways to catalogue all the stuff you own!

I have a copy of Delicious Library 2 and I love it. Sure, both connect to the internet to get information and both can export to an iPod, but I would still use Delicious Library. What I don't like about Librarian Pro is that you can't scan barcodes without a real barcode reader, Delicious Library had that feature whenever it was still in beta.

I also started with DL from  an earlier MacHeist and have recently upgraded to DL2. DL2 is much easier to work with and the extra categories make life simple by keeping tract of non media related items like Gadgets.

This is really helpful.  I acquired Librarian Pro from a bundle last year, and did nothing more than fire it up and register it.  It sounds like I need to try out DL2 before I waste any time on LP.

I've been using DL since it came out.  I've also upgraded.  It is pretty.  The only two real changes now that I wish they allow? 

1. You can publish to the web, but it's not searchable at all, which would help when I'm out book shopping.
2. Upload to eBay or at least port to iSale.

They also have wonderful Tech support and seem to be pretty decent folk to work with.

I'm one for Librarian Pro.. in it you can store all your media - not just books, but also software licenses, video games, CDs, DVDs, and anything else for which you care to create a category.

Koingo just recently pushed out an update that allow directly exporting a Librarian Pro database to Data Guardian - if you're into that sort of thing.  You can also place the library file anywhere, and access from any machine - Mac or Windows.

And there's always the export to text option.... and import from DL option, if iSight scanning's the thing for you, but you'd like a greater variety of things inventoried.  LP certainly isn't as delicious as DL.

I should add in the disclaimer that I purchased the Koingo utility bundle some time ago (through MacZot, no less), and have lifetime licenses for all of Koingo products.  Never an upgrade fee, ever.

I have been searching for a way to track my DVDs and was considering setting up my own library using Bento. However, I like the way Delicious Library reads the barcode and fills in the information for you. Less work! I downloaded a trial copy and have been trying to scan in some DVDs, CDs, etc. (I have an iMac with built-in iSight.) I notice that some barcodes are recognized immediately while some it just won't pick up. Also, I notice the DVD jackets tend to pick up a reflection from the screen (glossy screen iMac) which seems to interfere. Some of them I have to hold for a while before they are recognized. Any tips on getting better, more consistent results?

Also, I was trying to find a way in DL to add a custom user-defined field. Is there a way to do this? I see there are a lot of pre-defined fields you can add, but can I add my own?

I like that DL lets me add other items, too. I collect Barbies and need a way to track my ever-growing collection. I was setting up something in Bento, but this makes it easy to get the information in.

ADDITIONAL:
I downloaded DVDpedia (version 4.4.2) to try it out to compare. The same nine movies that DL would not scan, DVDpedia scanned them immediately. There was only one it took a while to recognize. The others I had to barely put them up into the scan area and it recognized them immediately. In the 22 movies I scanned, I was able to do it much faster with DVDpedia. I also see that I can define custom fields. While I like that DL has the options for adding other types of items, I am more impressed with the way DVDpedia was able to quickly scan my movies which is one of the main things I want to do at this time. At $18, I think it's quite good so far.

If you DL users could respond to the questions I raise above, that would be great. I would also like to hear from anyone using DVDpedia what your impressions are.

Delicious Library has a Publish-to-Web so that you can access your DB from your iPhone.  They have also said that they are working on an iPhone App that will sync your DB.

I have a question about Delicious Library.  I have been trying out the demo, and I am on the fence about buying for two reasons. 
1 - it could be an upcoming loot item.
2 - I can't figure out if you can mark an item as borrowed.

So, is there this capability within DL2, can I somehow....

Oh... nevermind.

So if anyone would like to know, yes, there is the capability.
You have to add friends to the library sidebar and then drag the item icon to the borrower's name.

But... I still think there is the chance that it will show up in loot... maybe?

DL was already given in an earlier MH. There is a policy of no repeats so it is very unlikely to happen.

So there's a policy of no repeats for the bundle, but there's nothing to stop it from coming in the Loot (apps have been repeated in the Loot). But this is the useless theoretical argument. Practically, I believe DL 2 will not come anywhere in MH3.

I've own both DL2 and LP, as is obvious from here they both have their pros and cons. For me DL2 was a little limiting but the barcode scanning is great. LP has no barcode scanning (I'm not buying a special scanner) but more options. In the end I've decided to use Bento!

I have started with my "real world stuff" like cameras and climbing gear and stuff and it is going well. I am hoping, but not looked into it yet, to export my DL2 stuff into Bento. That would give me the best of both, using DL2 to capture media stuff and Bento to store everything.

Of course Bento is certainly not without it's faults. I like many other were pretty annoyed by the lack of upgrade price from 1 to 2. So I am still on Bento 1 and will maybe look at Bento 3.

In fact I may end up using either of the other two again, I seem to decide to record all this stuff every year, make a start, never finish. Then decide to do it a different way the following year!

DEVONthink was part of the first bundle. 1password & Cha-Ching were rewards for completing heist 2 from MH1 and they were part of MH2's bundle.

So, I would really like to get DL2, but I'll wait till I see this years bundle (which I'm sure I'll buy.)

I was leery of that offer expiring and then not having it as loot so I figured at worst I would end up with a second license that I could give as a gift to my boyfriend. Or sell it here if anyone will want a second one, I suppose.
I also felt like a lot of people around have been talking about it, so if that many people want the app, they company has little need to put it through for publicity.

I've been using Delicious Library 2 for quite some time now, and I love it.  The barcode scanning is fantastically responsive, and the database searches can turn up results for almost anything you put into it.  In addition, on the rare occasion that I discover a bug, bug reporting is simple, and the dev team always responds promptly with an update.  I LOVE this program, and I really don't think it could be improved upon too much.

I use Librarian Pro.   When I searched to buy my product it had one big problem - now it has a bigger one.

The problem which I decided to live with is I had to add all short stories in the summary field.

The bigger problem is that the database engine it uses is quite inadequate for the size of my library.   Buying extra RAM didn't help.

I'm searching for something that would allow me to convert my library to some other product and have it be able to run on my Mac without the extremely poor performance.

Papers, perhaps?

Some automated function.   I'm retired - if my genes are true (and my heart attack indicated they might be), I might not live long enough to convert my library catalog to paper.

I meant Papers app. I use it for research papers, but you can use it for other things if you prefer.

My biggest issue with Librarian Pro is that it apparently is based upon Microsoft's engine which can't handle my personal library without being extremely slow. 

My second biggest issue is that the only way I can have a book or magazine listing stories is to have stories in the comments.

Trouble is, I don't see that Delicious Library fixes these problems.

I just want any program that can convert my Librarian Pro library - but not be slow, slow slow with my library.   It's not *that* big, with fewer than 6000 books.
