First, congratulations to the Directorate on Heist 3. Great Heist.
Here's my petition to all participants: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING.
The spoiler threads are great for sharing ideas, give clues, brainstorm, etc., but we don't need 24 pages of repetitive information.
I can understand that people may post an answer a couple of minutes apart from each other, but in many cases people are posting what has already been mentioned repeatedly.
Having a shorter thread will benefit everyone, so I would ask everyone to please read before posting.
How many times do we need the code, or the links, or Lisa's letter?
That's just my opinion. What do you think?
And again, thanks for the wonderful heist. Maybe Starry Night should be included in the bundle ![]()
Look Ma, no teeth!
it would be better if people take it the IRC chat rooms when working on a heist together.
the forum threads get quit hectic when a heist is in progress.
I think it would would be a lot easier for everyone to follow
oh, and I totally agree. Great Heist!!!
although the pic of the arrow and door had me stumped for quite a while.

I agree but sometimes as you post 15 others are posting the same thing. It is all happening too fast. I think in is inevitable to have a long tread during an active unsolved heist.

But just take a look at page 25 of the Haist 3 thread ![]()
It's absurd! 25 pages and 612 responses (so far)!
I do agree that the solution is simple, but how do we get people to read?
This thread is my attempt at the solution. It's been viewed 94 times, as opposed to 41847 from the Heist 3 thread. And who knows how many people read it. ![]()

If people read before they posted they wouldn't post the same info or the same question 32 times... it is simple...
BE PATIENT!!! and READ!!
When there are that many steps and clues, it is literally a matter of seconds between figuring out the different pieces. Often several people submit the same thing at the same time- but if we all sat around and read the thread without posting, then noone would post anything. It's kind of a Catch-22.
Edit: In addition, many of the posts are from people who are way behind and don't know what's going on (and are too lazy to go back and read). Not much you can do about that.
I think you will definitely find people who should read and become a little more informed before asking a really redundant question, however...
I guess I look at this as a place where we can hang out and talk to each other - bounce ideas back and forth and not necessarily be real structured. I've read things that make me groan with the repetition but then there are over 25000 users registered here and that many people have a lot of different things going on.
Even though I don't always want to wade through some of the useless fluff, I've had a great time on MacHeist. The folks running this show are doing an OUTSTANDING job! So this is some entertaining recreation. If it were a business meeting we'd be talkin' a whole different ballgame.

Yeah, I agree with ya except the fact for that I have done that millions of times (writing something that has already been writen. But hey! People do it to me sometimes to!)...
Oh yeah and lol on that remark at Shaahin. Nice comeback. WoW! Looks like someone needs a STRESS REALESE!!!!! ![]()
in the words of brianh431, Its time to f@#kin' rock & f@#kin' roll out of control
umm... do i need a signature?
I made a complete walkthrough in the first post. (Of the mission 3 thread)
I think it should be forbidden to post the code in any forum or thread. Not even as a spoiler!!
this way every one would be forced to do some work at least. And just getting into a safe after everyone elso got there first defeats the purpose.
anyone agree?

Some people aren't here to play the game, they just want free apps. While that defeats the idea, the end goal is to get free apps, isn't it?
Edit: And besides, not everyone has the time to do _every_ heist. Sometimes they need the code because they can't afford the time.
Quick question, how is this a petition?

It never fails...
One person, or a few people, do something clueless (e.g. "reply all" to an email directed at 100 people when that isn't appropriate) because, well, some people are clueless, and some people just have some learning to do.
Then, a few people send out well-intentioned posts ("please reply to xxx@xxx.com and not to the whole list") that have the unintentioned effect of pumping up the number of off topic posts/messages. Probably would have been better to go off thread, but whatever.
Then comes the flood of people complaining about the signal to noise ratio (or, in the old days, wasted bandwidth), which...completely defeats the purpose by filling the thread full of moderation comments.
_Then_, a less clueless and equally well-intentioned person creates a moderation thread ("let's keep it focused, kids, and not waste people's time") that probably will not be helpful because the only people who will read/understand it are people who probably don't need the input in the first place.
Given the lack of strict moderating and the fact that people can't be relied on to read off-thread messages, some silliness is inevitable and is probably addressed by (limited) in-thread RTFM comments.
haha- do we 'sign' the petition? or is it just 'out there' for suggestion
i do like the IRC idea-
it would help for the 'let's figure this thing out'
however- a guide is still a good idea for folks who do the heists on their own time- not spurr of the moment when it is released
*sigh
Quick question, how is this a petition?
Well, English is not my native language, and according to the Oxford American Dictionaries:
"make or present a formal request to (an authority) with respect to a particular cause"
I was unaware that a petition was presented to an authority, since in other languages a petition simply means to ask for something. In this case I asked: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING.
By the way, other dictionaries still include a less formal use of petition, but I guess in the US it's typically used in a more formal manner.
Look Ma, no teeth!
Here I am again... I resisted posting today. Give my fingers a rest. Do other things but I can't resist a good baiting.
First off I concur this was a fun and unusual heist. Grand actually.
What I don't like are those who ask questions or demand the answers when all they have to do is read above where they want to post.
I agree also with 'pmenair' he makes great points which leads me to this idea for the Directorate: Place a header that pops up in every thread that deals with the Heist itself that states to please scan/read the postings before asking any questions.
As for people who post findings, clues, answers a bunch... I agree with Bob, everyone making headway wants to post and a few of us heisters are a little more quick with some of the heists and we race to post our findings and we get a deluge.
But for me... that doesn't bother me as much as those who ask what does this mean or look what I found what does it mean?, when both are already in many posts above theirs.
maerlynne is also right... some of us who visit are to lazy. Is that alright? Sure.
This is a game that is fun and a community with alot of cool Mac Heads in it.
And if some just want to drop by get the info, never post and download the apps or just come ask questions that have been overly answered then download and leave until they remember to check for the next heist... that's fine.
Then there are some of us who for some reason want to take part in this whole shebang... and play along. and that is fine as well.
The real point here is simple: to put apps into play so the developers can get better known, grow and we as users can find out things we might not have known about.
What if you have no use at all for an app you get here or on MAAD... well why not at least check out the developer... maybe they have another app you would like.
Also if some of these apps can't be upgraded without a upgrade purchase, well if you are using it, then pay for it.
Now I like free apps. FREE is great... but at the same time money, sweat, hours, ideas and other stuff go into creating these apps and we shouldn't expect them to always be free because we somehow deserve it. That said... Yes I will take Mac app for free of course and then if I use it and like it and I have to pay for a newer release I can make a choice at that time.... and if not well I still have the app and it's working. These apps are not demos. Just like on MAAD they won't be demos.
If the apps here and on MAAD were demos this whole thing would be silly and I would say just subscribe to MacAddict or if you are in Great Britain MacWorld which is a better mag there than here.
Wow... Did I go off or what... But then I am a Dad and I own my own company so I sometimes feel the need to speak out.
Sue me.... LOL. After all these are just my opinion and in the immoral words of Dennis Miller: I could be wrong.

It's been said, but it clearly bears repeating --
Those threads are long because most people are all trying to solve the heist at the same time. If you don't want to read the threads, feel free to drop into the IRC chat room after the Heist starts, plenty of people settle in there to collectively solve the heists. Also, after the heist has been solved, the first post in the appropriate thread will be updated with a complete walk-through.
What exactly is the big deal?

Aye, first off, kudos to the directorate for putting time and effort into something this fun.
Second, I like how Phil posted the walkthrough of heist 3 in a separate thread. Maybe locking that and having a separate thread for troubleshooting/questions/working-things-out-sort-of-deal could work.
Starry Night ftw
, but even at holiday pricing, it's $35+ piece of software, so I doubt it will ever show up here

who cares how long threads are?? why does it matter anyway??
People are lazy to read through the whole thing.
Oh and by the way, don't say "Who Cares". Trust me, you don't want to be speaking for other people that you don't know.
I'm sorry, but this forum doesn't belong to anyone in particular. There are tons of crappy posts, and this topic isn't any different. MacHeist isn't a structured game, and as such, redundancy occurs. No one here has the right to impose their preferred posting structure on anyone else.

Assuming you really want answers:
1.Some people don't care, and other people do. I care.
2. Because a short thread is more efficient for:
-moderators
-people looking for tips and spoilers
-anyone interested in the heist
Of course, some people don't care. And post the same questions that have been asked. And also post the same answers that have already been given.
People can choose whether to do things efficiently or inefficiently. I prefer the former.
On the other hand, I also enjoy learning about behavior, so either way I'm happy ![]()
