When running Eventbox, I have dealt with numerous application and system freezes.  Pretty awful user experience, yet I can see the possible usefulness of the app.

Ideally, Eventbox would be fully functional (no demo) and the upgrade "might" entail a small fee for MacHeisters.  And all subsequent upgrades are free.

Thoughts?

Does the full version open a link within the Eventbox window, itself?

I spent weeks talking up MacHeist to friends who weren't into it.  Finally, one checked out the bundle and downloaded Eventbox.

They installed Eventbox and you guessed it, their Eventbox experience was screwy and lackluster.  First and last experience with it all for them.

Totally sucks, because Eventbox was the perfect app to introduce new people to MacHeist.

Unimpressed. Totally.

I was quite excited to see this app when it was released but never got round to downloading it. I only use Twitter and for some reason, user pictures don't visualise properly in EventBox. Some are correct size, others are way too big - can't read the tweet that is now forced into the picture. Might have something to do with the resolution of picture people are using for their accounts (I'm looking at you, Warbrain), but then again it might not.

*time delay* so now I tried resizing windows and that seemed to help with the text issue (still looking at you, Warbrain) but another resize and the whole thing has frozen to all f*ck. Messy and lacking polish. Guess what happens next...

Oh, and considering I'm not really one to complain, let's get one thing straight: if it's a beta, say so. If it's not, where are registration details?

It's a great program in theory, but there are a bunch of issues that hold it down.

1 - It's a beta. That's not cool, whoever's responsible, and it's kind of annoying to get a beta and not know it until I read the forums.
2 - The Facebook only updates statuses (the photos do not update for me).
3 - Occasionally, Facebook/Twitter updates revert to unread and I have to mark them as read.
4 - The "scroll past to mark as read" function is AWFUL. It marks things read in folders I'm not reading, it spazzes, and it's useless.
5 - It doesn't sync properly with Google Reader. EventBox says I have ~300 stories to read, Google Reader itself says I have almost 1000.
6 - During the checking for updates process, the app freezes up. Any stories read within that period are marked unread.

I'd say that it would be a great program if these bugs were fixed, but with a locked beta, they won't ever get fixed. I hate to whine (given the other fantastic programs in the bundle) but seriously guys. At least put this in Loot if it's a locked beta.

EventBox has url shortening, Cmd+J.

I haven't experienced any of the problems described here, and I've been using EventBox for a while (I paid actual proper money for it and everything) including the bleeding edge builds, which I expect to have problems with.

Twitter mentioned a problem with image sizes yesterday, so this could explain your issue, ozhab.

This is a great idea, but only a good app at the moment. Give it a few 1.x's and it will be very good. I think that this app will be amazing and almost a Mac community standard by the time 2.0 is released.

I will definitely buy this app when a new version with a new service is released so that I can stay up-to-date with this app's progress as I think it has so much potential.

I got it before MH, and it's been working great for two weeks or so. I use Twitter, FB, Google Reader, and Twitter. There is an issue with a limit on the number of items per feed in Reader, which is a bit annoying. But other than that, I find it works quite well. And I prefer it to all those other sucky Twitter clients.

I've had no problems with my copy of EventBox. It ideally suits my needs at home where I actually have time to read news feeds. At work I still use TweetDeck.

What I found best about EventBox, was not even considering an app that would do what it does. Therefore it was a bit of a bonus to actually try it out and find it fulfilled a need I didn't even know I had yet. I've got four monitors, so plenty of space to monitor stuff. Eventually I probably would have wanted one window for everything smile

I my search for a more capable and stable app than what EventBox seems to provide, I came across Syrinx. It's free to use, and the author accepts donations. I like the interface, as it has a native feel and even has a few nice features, like bookmarking pausing. You can find it here: http://mrrsoftware.com/MRRSoftware/Syrinx.html

I moved from Syrinx to Nambu a few weeks ago, and having looked at Syrinx 2 won't be going back any time soon. I'd pay for Nambu (not necessary) in preference to a free Syrinx or Eventbox.

This is a Twitter thing, not an EB thing. Twitter only allows you to refresh a limited number of times per hour (probably to avoid strain on their servers). If you are refreshing too often or too much you are reaching your limit and thus pissing Twitter off. If you right click on Twitter in the main window you can see an option for your refreshes left in the current hour.

Well I think the problem is with EB 'cause I still have 65 requests and my twitter is not updating for the past 6 hours... reinstalled and no change...

Sadly, too late. When I have a wealth of Twitter clients to choose from and now have Little Snapper with Flickr export built in, an app has to work the way I want it first time for it to be of any value to me.

My understanding was that EventBox was out of beta but after having visited their site, I see this is not the case. One of my issues still lies below...

*Update* Out of curiosity I downloaded EventBox from the front page again and got a completely different version. It is a MacHeist-specific build (says so on the .zip) with not a registration window to be seen. Guess I have to retract my original gripe about beta builds (no deleting though - they can remain for posterity).

A quick question regarding Facebook... I like the idea of being able to follow the stuff that is going on with my friends. But I have not found a way to comment on friends messages or something similar.

How is this done and if not possible - why use Eventbox for Facebook in the first place?

I have not added my Twitter account yet, but I am curious if this works different as well?

From what I understand it is a limitation with the Facebook API, which does not allow apps like EventBox access to have that capability at this time.

Well, it kinda sucks to call this Part of the package. The Heist is not even over and it doesn't work anymore. It's okay to not give us updates, but if there is an updatemanager build in I think I can update without having the shareware version installed afterwards. Even the demo runs for a longer period of time...
