Can't open registeration page. Is it that important to the operation of the program?
I've had a really weird problem where my keyboard becomes completely unresponsive except for the possibility to change spaces with ctrl+1-4 keys.
It started when I installed Clips and hasn't happened since I uninstalled Clips.
I can only say that for me, MacBook Alu, 10.6.2, it's not working and the support section for the app is not really that helpful...
I'd stay away from this app until some sort of update comes along. Shame really.
My Clips Serial from nanoBundle 2 is invalid ! ![]()
Found out what my problem is. The entire application falls apart in alternate keyboard layouts. I use Dvorak, and this means that even basic things like copy and pasting don't work in Clips.
I'm having the same problem. But in my case I use Portuguese and US International (a nice keyboard layout for Portuguese developed by a software developer in Brazil).
Let's go back to the old PTH...

Kumarei, I found a way that it worked under other layout. Try to launch the app under the English keyboard layout then change to your default layout. For me is working fine with Brazilian and U. S. International.
Like many here, I owned most of these programs and bought the bundle mostly for Clips. I downloaded the program and tested it before I bought the bundle. It worked fine. After entering the serial number the program crashes on startup. I can not get the app to open. I reported the problem to the developer about a week ago, including the error report. I haven't heard a word back from them. I understand they are probably busy, but it would be a good idea to at least acknowledge my report.
Clips works fine for me, but its complete suckage that it won't let me install it on both of my computers! Apparently 1 key = 1 machine (or as they seem to think, user).
Seems a little crazy to have to buy a 5-license pack just to install it on my work computer and home computer.
Hey everyone, all's running sweet for me...
osx 10.6.2
*EDITED*
I want to use the app to store code snippets, have a question though...
I created a clip board, titled it wordpress, added lots of code snippets to it. Then I cleared the My Clips board and lost all my clips in my wordpress clip board too, gutted. Any way to save snippets so they don't get deleted when the My Clips board is cleared??
ojay - do abbreviations work for you?

Ditto. I have two accounts on the one laptop. One for work and one for home. I have to exit clips each time I switch users!
Here's my review (issue):
Ok, I've paid for "this" — yes I'm sorry, that's hardly something else than "this". By chance, all the rest of the Bundle looks great. Looking at the online demo on MacHeist, Clips was just looking amazing... "was…"
Ok, you got a point, not everything is bad and some ideas are great (at least, works):
• Clips Organizer (even if I do not use it often, it's a great feature). Organizing clips by Spaces, Apps, etc. give to any people a way to use Clips on his own and it's clearly nice.
• Smart Clipboard: very great idea here.
• Shortcuts seems to work.
• Stats & co, why not, deserved by Smart Clipboard so it's great.
• Drag and Drop. Great! We're on mac right?
• Almost a great respect of UI guidelines from Apple (for Organizer and preferences).
• ... That's all folks...
Here's the "best" part:
• "Unintrusive system clipboard monitoring"
The monitoring is unintrusive, right, but I find intrusive to restart the app at every single edit, because you have many chances for having it not working if not, crossing fingers for your new setting to be taken in consideration, even after restart. I also call multiple crashs "intrusive" in my workflow.
• "Clipboard Sharing"
My personnal conviction should be to allow sync (MobileMe or so). When I'm at home or at work, I'm generaly using a single computer... so clipboard sharing is not usefull. By the way, sync a clipboard via MobileMe to be always up to date between my work and home computer would be more logical (TextExpander is a great example of this). And about sharing on local network, well, it'll work with sync too.
• "Live Search"
The app is so badly designed that I've never found this need.
• "Abbreviations"
This is an amazing possibility... when it works... and here, it works only 1/20th of the time, you type your abbreviation, and nothing appends. So you try again... nothing, ok, let's try another time... nothing. Well, you finally need to find another way to paste your clip. In TextExpander or the great Coda, you can set a delimiter and conditions for the abbreviation to be apply. For example, I've "invit[space]" to paste a whole code for Flickr invitation. So I need to press [space] for the abbreviation to work.
With Clips you can not set delimiters (yes they made it!), so if you really want to write "invitation" word, you'll never be able to!
An amazing thing: sometime, enter your abbreviation and the pasted content has nothing related with... it's just another clipboard!
It's completly badly developped. I was not able to delete a clipboard with an abbreviation, I had to create a new one (painful as you can not even edit or copy-paste a text clipboard right in the app) and I've tried to add an abbreviation. Obviously, as I set the same, my new one was refuse... logic, but I can not delete the other one, I can not even change it... so? I don't remember how I've found the trick, perhaps by restarting multiple times the app and making some "PowerUser" things. Unsuable. The only great this of this app is that I'm actually writting this review to alert you all not making the same mistake.
• "Designed with Leopard in mind [...] We've utilized many of the new technologies in Leopard such as Core Animation, Core Data, Cover Flow, and Quick Look to provide you with a rich software experience you'll be familiar with."
Too much eye candy things kills the aim of an app. I do not want to see those big and intrusive effects on my screen. And moreover, the UI is not so great. Especially on my 30" ACD. Design and content anti-aliasing are sharp and not smooth. I hardly understand the point of creating a multiple clipboards, with so much great ideas (because some are) for real workers, supposed to be time saver and very effective, and proposing such a UI.
• "Made for humans"
Definitely, in front of "this", I think I'm not one of them.
• Support
A fine "open ticket" option in the menubar application, but wait... You said support? I'm always waiting for mine, but I guess they have much to do with such an app for sure...
• Why not being able to add shortcuts to left column items of the Organizer? So you could open — on the mouse focus (should be an option) — his content, just pick and boom, it's paste.
• No "real" Edit option even for a simple text
• Multiple selection of clipboard is impossible in the organizer. You want to move your 40 clips in a new collection? Simple, just drag them one by one. You want to remove multiple clips, simple, just delete them one by one. It's that simple! I've rarely used such non-ergonomic app.
• When I copy a URL path to an image, why trying to connect (thanks LittleSnitch) to display the picture? I'm copying a text, a path file, I'm not copying a picture!
• Bunch of thing I could find...
• Be happy Conceited Software, I'm one of those who buy it...
• As I've now a license, I believe in the reliable update, centered on workflow (should be the main aim of such an app) and only after that, playing with effect and fun, if needed. So let's see.
• ClipMenu actually stay the best clipboard I've tested so far.
hmm, I agree with many of your points tazintosh, although I didn't see the need to post in the support section...The UI is flashy, but it seems that there are 3 ways of accessing the clipboard, 2 of which are superfluous! I don't see any benefits, or usability differences between the overlay and the sidebar. Tbh, the browser window would have done the job, and if they had spent more time on bug fixing, I'd have been happier! The fact is that the app has been released without a thorough testing period, with features that are advertised that don't even work!

Having similar problems to posters above: Icon won't appear in menu bar; saves only one clip at a time. Have had to trash pref file and restart several times just to get to the point where I realize that this app just might not be useable. (And I'm also part of the contingent who was lured to the MacHeist bundle by Clips.)
I can't get the Clips Organizer to launch, all I get when I launch the app is a dashboard type screen that says "No Clips" I can't find anything in preferences...
Please help!
Clips app crashes on start up (10.5.8). Disappointed :-(
Clips app crashes on start up (10.5.8). Disappointed :-(
If only I would be so lucky that the app would crash on start up. Instead, the app just sits there in the menu bar and completely hangs itself and brings other apps to their knees when doing a bit of copying to and fro (but that's what I would want this app for, right?)
The only way to get my system (10.6.2, 4 GB, 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo) back in somewhat of a workable shape is to quit Clips from within the Activity Monitor. Well, did that for the last time; will not open that app again until there's a decent update. Disappointed, indeed.
I get eh following message, and have followed the registration instructions... can not close this box... VERY annoying!!
Couldn't connect to the activation server.
Clips could not check your free trial status and will now enter expired mode. Please verify Internet connnectivity and try again.
If you are connected to the Internet and are still unable to reach the activation server, please verify your firewall settings.
Whenever I use the board to paste something I get it pasted twice - one clip right after another. I have no idea why this is happening, but it's quite annoying. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and/or how to fix this?
BTW I guess I should mention that, on the other hand, whenever I use the panel to paste something, it works just fine. The thing is that the board is way more useful than the panel and at first it was working just fine.
I'd really appreciate any help or advice I get.
If you aren't getting responses from the developer or other users here, you can contact the developer directly at http://conceitedsoftware.com/products/clips
I have Clips installed on a Mac Pro and a Macbook Pro and have the same issue on both. Both are running 10.6.2. Clips works for a little while and then locks up and I get the spinning beach ball. The program doesn't crash, it's just stuck and unusable and uses system resources.
Support won't respond and even though I've registered for the user forum twice, they won't send me a password. They're committing suicide with this poor service.
Worked for a while, now crashes every time I load it (have also tried reinstalling). Keyboard layout issue mentioned above may be the issue for me to, I have multiple language inputs. Hope they're planning on fixing this - looks like a useful application otherwise. Any update would be great.

This thread is about Clips. http://conceitedsoftware.com/products/clips
Yep, I've got exactly the same problem as "awhowat" above. I sent a couple of bug reports to the developers yesterday, and I haven't heard anything back yet. This is a real disappointment.
Same problem for me. When I manually open Clips I can see all my clips on the screen, but I can't see the icon of the program anywhere in the dock or in the menu bar and I can't configure it. Hope anyone can help us. Bye from Italy.
I'm having a little trouble getting it to move off the trial. First, it doesn't let you paste the license in there, and when I type it in manually, It still looks like this.... http://grab.by/2NaG
I have the exact same issue! Has this been resolved? Also, I can't use it offline--what gives?

Right now CLIPS is taking up about 500mb of memory, and I have only text clips, no big graphics or anything else. I have reset it several times and it always comes back to this. Is this leaking memory or something?
So far not getting lots of warm fuzzies from either Clips or its dev. Meh, <sigh> I guess it's back to CuteClips. Oh, how I miss iClip!

Clips disapoints me because it just runs on a single computer, and I have to unregister the old computer when I switch to another one. Once registered, Clips won't start if you don't have an internet connection. With my laptop I don't have an internet connection all the time. And even if there is interent, since I block all unnessessary connections, I cannot work with Clips although I paid for it. :-(
Just upgraded to OS X 10.6.3 and after the necessary reboot of my MBP, Clips told me that my copy is not registered and Clips will quit in 10 minutes. So I re-entered my License Key and it seems, that clips is working again, but it tells me, that my copy is registered on two machines. I have installed Clips on my MBP only an didn't even tried it on other machines. How can I correct this mistake?
I'm having the same trouble as most of the initial posts here about getting clips to recognise the serial number being inserted by the Clips site. Initially, I couldn't paste the serial number in the spot, so I patiently waited, thinking it was that issue with so many license activitations from the bundle. Now that the free trial is expired, I've tried to activate Clips thru the link, and now it's saying the serial number is invalid! I can't even edit or type in the space to try the suggestion above of using the edit menu to paste the serial number in.
I feel really dudded.
How can i can I get this ap's license activitated?

One machine per serial is weak. Even Adobe knows that. No one else has a laptop and a desktop. I find that hard to believe.

Clips works good for me on osx 10.6.3. The only problem I found is that it doesn't recognize text copied from OpenOffice (and it's derivates NeoOffice and Go-oo). It seems like it copies just a "coded" string, instead of plain text. If you paste the text copied that way you will get everything on a single line.
Already complained with developers, still no update.
Other word processors such as Pages and Microsoft Word:mac aren't affected (but I simply won't use them! they are not good for me).
Clips is telling me that I need to enter my serial number, but it is telling me that it is being used on another machine. This happened when I downloaded to update for the operating system. What do I need to do to fix this? It says to deactivate the other machine, but there is no other machine.
Mine crashes immediately. I don't even see the icon bouncing on the dock. If looking the activity monitor the process appears for a second and just disappears. I tried re-downloading it but no change.
Edit: submitted a ticket, will see what happens.
Same here.

No support, no updates. Have given up on this one. Bummer.
I upgraded to a new Macbook pro, installed clips, I have been told the license has been used for two computers. I already deleted from the old machine. What should I do?
Clips has given me nothing but problems, too.
