Went ahead and used your referral. Thanks for sharing the deal.
Yep, thanks for sharing — one more referral for you.
I went ahead and purchased because it's a great price even though I'm sticking with the mail.app until Lion is released. As the updated version of mail.app looks really nice but if it doesn't live up to expectations then I have sparrow and postbox licenses to fall back on ![]()

Now that you've put your refferal, may I put mine too ?
I answer to myself, I put mine too, and if it's not done, please Mr/Miss Moderator; remove it ;
Thanks for being transparent about posting a referral link. It's steps that like that actually make people want to use them.
I've juggled three dedicated Gmail clients for sometime: Mailplane (which I helped beta test, and still test using the preview builds), Fluid 1.0, and Sparrow. Of the three, I actually prefer Sparrow now, especially with some of the improvements that have come with the latest 1.2 version.
In my usage experience, dedicated Gmail clients with offline storage have always suffered from sluggish performance; Mailplane always seemed to lag horribly (and now it doesn't even support offline through Gears anymore, though Ruben has now put up an experimental preview build supposedly bringing back offline through HTML5), and Fluid doesn't even have offline since Google killed off Gears. But Sparrow's actually been relatively responsive, and now most of the performance issues I've had with displaying messages seem to have been ironed out. The UI changes may be a little dubious, but then again, Sparrow's UI has always been odd to begin with.

Sparrow is one of those apps I am hedging on. I want to see how much I like Lion's Mail.app before committing to another app (again).

Thanks for posting this and yes I used your referral link. Great app by the way especially now that it supports more than just Gmail.

I found Sparrow worth to put on the dock, I liked specially the unified inbox.
BTW, it's always good to see not only a clearly stated affiliated link, but also an alternative.
Thanks jesseB93, I've just used your referral, got sparrow and so my pretty new appsumo affiliate link. But that doesn't means I should consider to hijack the credit you deserve on this thread, no, this is your [and well done] work!

I personally like mailplane better. It works better for me.
Meh. Mailplane is functionally very cool, but the whole point of using Apple Mail or Sparrow is to avoid the Gmail web interface, which I don't care for all that much.

Yeah, I understand that. Sparrow does many things very well. But I need the whole google apps experience for work and things.

Buyer beware: expected to be spammed if you purchase through Appsumo.
Hmm, although I'm not exactly a fan of their (almost daily) promotion email (and their sales copy for that matter), unsubscribing is only a click away. But yeah, I don't recall there's a tickbox somewhere on their website to say that you don't want to be sent any promotion email.

Just a heads up for anyone buying Sparrow from a non-Mac App Store source:
I received confirmation from the developer that although these purchases are legitimate, for OS X 10.6 or later, Sparrow from the Mac App Store will be the version focused on for development.
Non Mac App Store versions of Sparrow will be maintained for an undisclosed amount of time for users of OS X 10.5.
I purchased Sparrow through this Appsumo deal, and now I've noticed that the newest version available is only on the Mac App Store. I'm wishing I'd just forked over the extra few dollars to get Sparrow from the Mac App Store...

That's a strange way of actying. They would have put that on the Appsumo deal I would have understood, but doing that this way, no. I find that completly dishonest.
I've just had another look at the appsumo webpage and found nothing mentionning this. I just wrote Sparrow developers my way of thinking.
I just reinstalled it from:
http://download.sparrowmailapp.com/appc … latest.dmg
And it shows as the latest version 1.2.1 to me, which matches the latest version on the MAS? *shrugs*
Active Bundles: None - Sad Panda Face
Indeed. This seems intentionally deceitful and that's not someone you should do business with at all.
I wonder what their reply would be, however. It's the same reason I won't give Sophiestication anymore business either.
I don't fault AppSumo so much as the developer themselves. I think they just need to really work on clarifying how they are going to distribute the app from this point forward.

Correct. I've rechecked the versions and it gets a bit confusing.
The version from that link is version 1.2.1 (build 767.24).
The version from the Mac App Store is 1.2.1 (build 767.22).
On the Sparrow website, when I viewed it the other day, their FAQ page listed the version as 1.2.1 (build 767.28), which is what prompted me to inquire about the version mismatch.
Today however, the same FAQ shows the version as 1.2.1 (build 767.22).
It's possible that they just had a typo on their website, but I don't know what to believe.
In any case, they definitely need to get that sorted out...

It's not a surprise that their version numbers are a mess.
No answer from Sparrow developers, but nice reaction from App Sumo. I've asked them to first check if they would be able to give me an upgrade and if not, to give me a refund. They have refunded me immediatly after letting me know there was nothing to do for the upgrade.

Upgrade for me is all the new features they're goig to add before the next major upgrade (2.x here). And they seem to be quite busy on that.
hmmm so if we got this from the appsumo promo how is that different upgrade wise from the MAS? Wouldn't both be a paid upgrade once it gets to 2.0 anyway?

It's possible but as of yet unconfirmed.
The only thing that I confirmed is that they're focused primarily on the MAS version.

Ah, ok. Yeah, I'm not thrilled with this information.
But I bought the app from the MAS because I do love the interface.
If they don't get this stuff sorted out though, I'll likely just switch back to Apple Mail once Lion arrives.

Yeah... I didn't see much of a future for Sparrow to begin with. There are far better apps then Sparrow that have existed since before Sparrow.

Following their rules, you don't need to give any reason to get your refund
It's now a $5 deal at livingtechie.com. I bet it's the same conditions.
I think there is some confusion on this whole thread. AFAIK it's not that the terms of the AppSumo deal were that purchases would only support 2.2. It's that Sparrow themselves appear to be hedging towards going MAS only.
If you view the website you can see they clearly push the MAS version as the one to buy and list the non MAS version as being for 10.5 Leopard. Along with the only response from the dev that it will be supported for an "unknown amount of time" kinda suggests they plan to drop support for Leopard at some point probably once Lion is out and with a new version such as 2.1.3/4 etc.
As for AppSumo refunds they offer a 100% anytime refund for any purchase with no quibbles. Pretty awesome service!

You're wright, I've discovered too there was a lot of confusion about this Sparrow discount. AppSumo telling me that I would'nt get an upgrade when I asked for refund. Sparrow support telling me that in my case AppSumo rules were the one which were applied, so that he couldn't do anything. And at last, a developer of Sparrow who told me that they were updating all versions of Sparrow the same way so that it would be the same for my version. It's difficult to know what's up this way ![]()

This is exactly the reason I just got a refund and purchased it through the MAS.
I enjoy the app, but figured I'd just go the safe route and purchase it that way instead.

I just told them I was not happy with the apparent conflict between the MAS version and the version we were sold. In light of that I was not comfortable with the misrepresentation by sparrow and request a refund. Well something to that affect lol. Appsumo was great actually followed up apologizing after giving the refund and credited me an additional 5 bucks on my next purchase....

not sure if they still offer a lite version, check the sparrow website. They used to have one before the MAS which let you use it on one email account.

They don't offer any downloads directly from their website that I can see, but they do have a lite version available on the Mac App Store, appropriately called "Sparrow Lite".
