Great MacHeist! Thanks. Still hoping for the two referral apps, but really enjoying the Bundle! ![]()
Some other weird quirks (and these are all everyday, must-have features for me): no eyedropper tool ...
If you're looking for the eyedropper for color-sampling, control-clicking the magnifying glass on the color palette will let you sample the color. If that's not what you meant, sorry for jumping in.
Cool hint, thanks! That takes care of part of it, however the eyedropper tool in vector apps usually grabs more than just the color. It's useful for replicating a whole slew of attributes across a selection of objects. But I didn't not realize that what you suggested was possible, so at least it's a start.

I can not believe it got to $300k so quickly. It is like Christmas all over again, and again.

Andrew Scott wrote:No criticism of the MacHeist team intended but VectorDesigner is very immature. Having just tried using it for some simple work it's clear it lacks basic features and stability. It rreally feels more like beta software. Its great to see a new product, from a team with some good ideas, get some encouragement and publicity but I hope none of its users intend to produce serious work with it.
What features do you think it's lacking? Granted I've never used Illustrator but it seems very fleshed out. It reminds me of Pixelmator.
Sorry to comment and run—been busy.
VD has some nice new features but lacks stability in the basics. For example: draw a polygon and then use the menu item Arrange/Rotate Clockwise. Then resize the shape using a corner handle. The polygon resizes within it's bounding box but looses its rotation.
Another example: create a second layer with the Layer inspector then try to create some shapes on the new layer. All new shapes seems to default to the bottom layer regardless of the position of the pencil icon or whatever layer is highlighted. After you finish dragging to create the shape it disappears leaving a bounding box. If you click on the bottom layer it appears but if you click on the canvas (deselecting it) it is deleted for good.
A couple of missing features:
- You can't deselect an object using Shift or Command. Select three objects and then try to deselect the first one. Can't do it—have to make the selection all over again.
- Can't seem to rotate an object an arbitrary amount.
Some of the developers other software looks really good (eg. LensTweaker) so I'm sure it will mature. It's promising and betrays some great ideas—I hope it does really well—but it's just not ready for release yet. It makes me wonder about the validity of the Macworld Best of Show awards.
Anyway, all that aside, congratulations to all concerned on passing the $300k mark and unlocking such a varied bundle.
Tip: never ever rotate via the arrange menu. this is pretty cool, just stumbled across it--if you hold down command and drag one of the box nodes for a polygon, you can rotate it arbitrarily. as well, resizing after doing this transform does not force the polygon to snap back to its original orientation.
cool.
as for the other missing features, i haven't seen anything...but I'd be on the lookout.
but i do kinda agree with you, it feels like a beta.

Whachu waitin for, Wills?
So, we are getting to about $400k. I really think one more last second app is in order. This is really going gangbusters. Come on boys.. One more for the road.
This is a sweet deal.

I have been waiting for VectorDesigner and finally got the serial today - hoorah.
Just been playing with and trying to import .ai and .eps files into the programme and it can't be done.
All my existing vector work cannot be opened what's the point of that !!!
Stick to Illustrator.
Thanks for the all the hard work though ![]()
Actually pH, just drag and drop the files into VectorDesigner, and it should work just fine. I believe the creators are looking at allowing this to be done by the more common "import" method.
Edit: It actually doesn't work with .ai files for me - I had only been doing it with .eps files - .eps can be dragged in just fine though.
