i dont know where to start on this heist. can anybody help me out please?

their isn't one going on right now but their may be one later but almost certainly next year

Unfortunately the missions have finished for this year (unless the Directorate have got something hidden up their sleeve). The next ones will probably start much later in the year, but keep an eye out.

The Directorate will post a mission briefing on the briefings page. This will contain cryptic clues, which will send us all on a merry chase across the internet, through a myriad of specially created sites, using a variety of technologies old and new (this year the missions required gopher, an Apple Remote, access to a PC or debug mode in Safari, the Brainf*ck language, short-time fourier transforms, genetics and more). The goal of a mission is to discover the code to the safe, which when entered correctly is unlocked giving you some shiny loot.

It's a bit like a cryptic crossword on something illegal. Difficult, slightly odd in places, requires some serious thinking out of the box, but immensely satisfying on completion.

Have you ever won? And if so, could you give me an example of a "shiny loot?"

There are no winners or losers in the traditional sense. Anyone who enters the code in the safe before the mission expires gets the loot, even if they just looked up the code in the forum without bothering to do the heist.

You can see a list of all the loot that was available across all four heists in this thread. You should also have a look at the wiki, at http://www.macheist.com/wiki. You'll find complete descriptions of all the heists and everything else MacHeist related there.

P.S. The thread above doesn't mention the discount vouchers. For every heist that you 'completed' you also get a $2 discount voucher, up to a total of $10, off of the bundle price.

Hanloj is right on the money. The Heist's are over, and reading some of the resources he linked to will definitely get you ready for MacHeist III, which will most likely begin late Fall.
