You can see the footprints by taking a snapshot (shift-cmd-4, hold ctrl, drag with mouse, release mouse, release ctrl), open preview, cmd-n (for new document) your snapshot is now on-screen, alt-cmd-c to alter the colours, fiddle with the brightness/contrast etc and you'll get the picture.

Thanks for the tip!

My version of Preview - 4.1 (469.2.2) - has Grab in the File menu and lets you take a Selection, Window or Timed Screen. How cool is that?

I'm a big Skitch user but this is pretty convenient for using tools in Preview that aren't in Skitch. Nifty.

Btw, this did help, but my monitor calibration is really horrid at the moment apparently. Even messing with the various settings barely makes 'em visible. They do show up much better now on the 2nd monitor (2 monitor setup on a tower), which is a ViewSonic. )-:

There are three sets of footprints because the directorate obviously snuffed Lanham when his services were no longer required... DUHHHHHHH tongue

Hold up.  This tree is WAY to perfect to be real.

My guess is that the directorate found a time when no one was looking, snuck in there, dug up the old tree, and replaced it with this "tree."

That's the only explanation

That, or aliens have indeed invaded, and are working from the northernmost point of the earth down, replacing crappy, half-assed christmas-- excuse me, 'holiday'-- trees with their own people.

Let It Be.

Someone had to put up that lovely tree skirt... it didn't just grow there - but they've not really finished the decorating yet.

Are we leading up to a MacHeist Treelighting Ceremony?   Shall we bring hot cocoa and blankets so we can wait nearby to watch?

Not to burst your conspiracy theories or anything, but David hand stitched the skirt. He's been up all hours finishing things here and there.

Anyways yeah, it's definitely fully grown though, so we are prepping it for decorations. Gotta make it gorgeous!

I have to ask: where on the planet is the tree supposed to be located that night suddenly falls around 21:00 UTC?

Assuming night falls around 17:00 to 18:00, it looks to me like Greenland is the most likely location. It's in UTC-0300/UTC-0400, it's likely barren (if it's anything like the Canadian arctic), it sits in the northern hemisphere so would be snowy now and with likely little light pollution it would provide a nice view of the Aurora Borealis.

Why do people seem to think they have the right to not be offended?

Ah well, I'm highly unlikely to get the additional two. Everyone on Macs that I know of are already signed up at MH so I've got no-one to refer for those. Let me know what I've missed when you get 'em, k?

[edit] btw, love the dogcow ornaments. Half tempted to make a few for my own tree. (-:
