What about decoding the central colors into the hex codes for them? Following the path of the maze? That might lead us to something?

I didn't get anywhere with this either.

I noticed the image (downloaded via clicking on the Remote) looks like a heat map - as if it's saying you're getting closer if you look bottom-right corner of something. So I looked at the bottom-right corner of the maze because the right-hand side wasnt even used for the first part of the clue, but havent seeing anything yet.

I noticed the image filename is a 32 char hex string, same as UUID keys in Second life (once the hyphens have been inserted). I tried using a simple script to display it on a prim face but it wasnt a known key - resulted in just a plain dark grey face.

I've already downloaded the prize by the way from MacHeist homepage. Even so, would have been nicer to have a more satisfying end to the puzzles wink

PS: It looks vaguely like a sculpty map in Second Life as someone else mentioned, though sculpty maps look much smoother and this is full of what looks like bubbles. Anyway, can confirm that doesnt work. The hex string doesnt represent a sculpty map either otherwise it would have shown on the prim face like any other texture. So bottom line, nothing to do with Second Life. That would have been querky anyway!

All I have is a maze that can toggle from one pattern to another, depending on where my mouse pointer is.  Nothing clickable or movable.

Hmmm...

Are people really this hard up for $39 in software? I mean c'mon.. isn't the time you spend on trying to complete these idiotic "missions" worth far more than $39. Just whip out the credit card and buy the software if you need it. MacHeist is lame and getting lamer all the time.

Not at all. Long since downloaded the software for free from MacHeists homepage. The puzzle is just for fun. If it doesnt interest you then move along and buy the software (or if you've more savvy just download it for free like mentioned).

edit: Think that's all there was to it anyway if other threads are anything to go by.

It reads "swords of the television generation" if you go through the maze; start to the left on the 2nd floor (green) and continue on the 1st floor (brown) until you are out again.

Are we supposed to send a message anywhere else than here?

yeah, found the image, tried the eye-trick-thingy (obviously not heeding the cries of guitardaddy's girlfriend) and decided that I may have seen this before in an apartment I once visited several decades ago, but it otherwise means nothing in and of itself

if it is to be, it is up to me...

Did anyone ever figure anything out having to do with the sit twbot.com.....? Someone mentioned it earlier and it's a picture of an eye with what seems like 1/7th or 1/8th of it missing. Perhaps a reference to a particular portion of the .tga pic?

The images aren't rotatable or otherwise editable or movable.  Might as well be a plain old .JPG.  Just a 2-D picture that toggles from one pattern to another depending on whether my mouse pointer is inside or outside the maze

I'm confused with something else... When you go to google with our weird rainbow pic address it says "download plugin"... Plugin for what?

There was a plugin last year associated with theswordsofthetelevisiongeneration website. I can't remember what it was there for though.

the plugin i think your on about was a safari plugin that allowed your apple remote to control a 3d maze

It allows an apple "remote" to control some kind of maze (i wasn't a member of macheist at the time). Perhaps this has something to do with "sword of the television generation" which refers to a remote control. I haven't come to any enlightening conclusions but I'm sure that if there's something in it someone will find it. big_smile>

k, i think i understand what is trying to be accomplished, its definitely something hidden within the image and not a code, metadata, or a hidden file of some kind. i tried using FileJuicer (which shows the internal components of a file) but came up with nothing, so in that file, there is only the image, nothing else. something that stands out to me, though, is that they use .tga instead of just a .jpg or .png, which are much more common. i have never heard of a .tga until now, which is weird. anyways, this is my first year, so i'm psyched.

this website, thegardenofforkingpaths.com is a mind game that leads you to this other site called swordsofthetelevisiongeneration.com. I'm just trying to find the point of this problem!! it says on google that to view this particular page you must "DOWNLOAD PLUG-IN". I'm concerned about downloading that javascript! I read that this particular plug-in causes Firefox crashes. I don't need a mac with problems!

I think this page will change or reveal more tomorrow! Hope this helps.

I think I figured it out guys... swords of the television generation. Oh wait, did someone already say that?

So... I sort of browsed the other topics in this forum, perhaps everyone here who has found the TGA file and put the link into the Mainframe would also be surprised to see that this is one piece of the puzzle, there are eight other challenges.

Here's something I found via Twitter search, and I think what we're shooting for:

http(colon slash slash) img (dot) skitch (dot) com (slash) 20090107-gybbq3ntbthjkupjr3d94jqjxw (dot) jpg

So, essentially, we're looking for other images like the first.

Now, we just have to figure out how to do that.

TWBot.com seems promising, but putting in the eye image's URL to mainframe.macheist.com does nothing for me.

When taking a different path from the left entrance of the maze, one gets sword 735 bow 521 hammer 172. This hardly seems coincidental, esp. given that the site is called the Garden of Forking Paths. Thoughts?

There's a very unconventional meta tag on the twbot site if you look at the source:

< meta name="revisit-after" content="1 day" >

So something tells me we should keep an eye (har har ;p) on that site for more information tomorrow.

Noticed that the last number of the first is the same as the first number in the second, and same for 2nd and 3rd.  Do those link somehow?
