Hmm... The logo doesn't look very finished. Could it be a placeholder for a MacHeist 3 one? Maybe the one we've seen at the giving tree and on twitter?

Also, note that the "Praise for MacHeist 1" is now "Praise for MacHeist".

I've got that feeling too.....  I'm not sure if it's always been like it but when I refresh the MH page now you can see the number pad behind the locked panel.

BTW. You're getting pretty close to that 1000th post there MJ smile

Of course, "01-02-09" is february 1st. 2009 in all of Europe (except sweden, where it's february 9th. 2001 wink)

And since today is nearing an end, february 1st. is looking more and more plausible wink

Blah blah international dates... I've become conscious of this lately and try to disambiguate by using month abbreviations (ie Jan. 2, 2009 is still backwards for you but you understand it). But the international order makes sense - smallest to larges, day month year.

Actually, from the viewpoint of a computer scientist (i.e. my viewpoint), the only date format that really makes sense is the swedish one (YYYY-MM-DD). It's perfectly understandable, unabigious and sorts perfectly in any database or flat-file.

I think the sorting argument is pretty much the winner. It's simpler to sort, and it's logical to read. Let's start a petition.

ISO 8601, baby: the only way to fly. Descending order of magnitude makes it unambiguous and easily sortable.

god i wish we'd go metric here in the states, imperial is illogical.  we seemed to have started slowly working towards that sticking it in in some areas, but it's never gonna change we're all too lazy to swap over.

I've standardized on yyyy/mm/dd. Even in reading, I've gotten used to it. I'm old enough that I still have to calculate metric distances and weights. But at least the calcs keep me thinking. ;-)

Not everything, but a lot of things are.

A few minutes ago, instead of this -

http://img.skitch.com/20090103-8ytmp177qe7uqwnwf2wp4sa5ry.jpg

I saw a keypad.

I rushed to the "Briefings" page without thinking about it, and it was sealed up again. So, I missed the opportunity to get a screenshot, but yeah, it was a keypad for a minute.

If you have a slow connection, you will always see the keypad before the panel and lock loads.

Actually, although your "to the home" link may be fast, the connection in general may be slow (depending on network congestion and the slowest link en route).

The site itself may even be congested/overloaded, making the connection (not the link) slow smile

Connection = point to point communication, f.ex. a browser on a client talking to a webserver
Link = the physical carrier

Much as I hate to say it, I kinda agree. During MacWorld last year they were so incredibly busy I can't imagine them running heists too. Unfortunately...

I'm wondering what the advertising at MacWorld will be based on, though...

I suppose one ought to give more credit to the directorate. It's not like they're going to be creating the heists on day 1 (and frantically peck on their keyboards till it ends). They would definitely have *some* work to do during the heists, but most of it should be done by now (leaving only some surprises to be handled).

I'd guess that the heists are already prepared and ready, just waiting for the master cron job to flick a switch to say "It's on, people!" big_smile
