Oh, the irony - isn't John Gruber a big MacHeist hater?
According to John (and my famously infallible memory) he was going to do an interview with Gruber which would finally clear the air about the MacHeist concept. While Gruber had some valid criticisms, I think it was clear to both the Directorate and their partners (on the whole) that Gruber's profit estimates, like Paul Kafasis', were simply incorrect.
I was really looking forward to reading it, but from what I recall, they both had the opportunity to least have a chat, but nothing of it was ever published. He's been sponsored before, during MHII, and that if nothing else was a tacit admission that he was likely mistaken about MH before.
Oh well. I still read him, if only for the fact that he's one of the only bloggers around who still channels the spirit of the dearly lamented DrunkenBatman (Daniel Eran Dilger is another I can think of). I think his "Jackass of the Week" and "Interface of the Week" posts are spot-on.
