Most creative guess so far.
4228/65 = 65.046
65.046/3 = 21.68205128
=> Jan 21st + .68205128
*24 = 16 + 0.36923076923
*60 = 22 + 0.15384615385
*60 = 9 + 0.23076923076
=> Jan 21st at 16:22:09.2307
That's a pretty accurate guess, I guess ![]()

Wouldn't that be year zero, though? Throw it into OOo Calc or Excel, for example, and it's 1900-01-21 16:22:09 (trimmed to the second to allow of a little crud in the tubes). ![]()

It would, but then years are ambiguous ![]()
The "western hemisphere" calculates years A.D.
But the Bahá'í calendar year is 163 (164 in march, approx.)
The Buddhist calendar year is one of 2699, 2553, 1935 or 1370 depending on calendar (approx)
In Ethiopia it's 2001 since sept. 11th 2008
The muslim calendar year would then be 1438 or 1439 depending on sects
And the jewish year looks to me like a rubber-band - it depends on when and how much you stretch it, when you are. (no offence meant, but the Wikipedia article isn't very clear on the subject
)
So, who are we to say that the poster doesn't count from 0 - that is now is the year zero from MacHeist III ? ![]()

My guess is..
It will have started by the 15th of January.
It will not start before the 6th.
It will start between 5 and 5:30 PM (in whatever time zone MH uses)
It will begin with a large and blatantly obvious announcement or event of some kind.
It will be more in depth than the previous heists by a factor of at least 2.2
It will not involve any non-internet based encounters (excepting answerphones).
It will be announced by at least 12 third-party websites within an hour of it beginning.
It will involve DDOS in some way.

Stop stealing my crappy guess! It's based off of the last two start dates, and it's also Macworld. Of course... it's probably wrong. So many dates, one real answer.
epifany wrote:spyker3292 wrote:I'm still guessing 1/5
For some reason I'm having a hard time with that date with MacWorld. I'm betting on 1/16 because I have this weird feeling the Directorates are going to be busy during Macworld and need some time to come off of it??? Just a hunch. My 2¢.
If that's the case we may not see anything until next week since MacWorld runs Monday, January 5 to Friday, January 9th.
yeah, that's why I think the 16th. More because it's the weekend and they'll likely get more traffic because of it. Also, if the Heist start before Macworld, imho it wouldn't be good marketing. Reasoning: that the participating developer's may potentially loose new paying customers at Macworld due to the bundle availability through Macheist. Waiting till after Macworld would be in the developer's best interest. But who knows, they've done it before MW before. However, this is one of the reason's that Apple is pulling out of MW in the first place. http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/12/16/ap … bout-time/
Just some reasoning for my ¢2.

That's really good reasoning there, I hope you're not correct though ![]()
Macworld tends to be about pimping that latest, freshest products and I'm not sure developers who have released a MAJOR update in recent weeks/months would allow them to be included them in a Heist. There would be bad PR/customer feeling from people who just bought at MW and a limited possibility of upgrade revenue in the near future from everyone else.
Just an opinion from someone who hopes you are wrong ![]()

Actually, the bundle comes out after the heists are completed. So there's not a problem with the developers. The heists usually take 3 weeks to a month. I would think it'd be more of a problem having the directorate at MacWorld trying to network and enjoy the environment (as well as the adult beverage environment!), rather than a problem with the developers. The website is going to get pummeled once the heists start, and I doubt they want any distractions.

Good Point! I agree.

Though I actually prefer dd month yyyy even better.
Well, it's Monday, January 5th - the day many people predicted, and nothing yet. Then again, the day's not quite over yet. Let's hope it's today.

I have a Macro I wrote at work years ago and still use daily that autosaves my documents in folder based on the Template name with the filename "YYYY-MM-DD DocumentTemplateNameN.doc" where N is the number of instances of this document there have been today.
It makes the sort order really simple.
I use the same strategy for nameing scanned in bills at home.
It's one of the first thing I want to learn how to do when I finally get around to learning AppleScript.

I agree! That's how I sort and batch name my digital photos -- (YYYY-MM-DD).
Same here...
Any other way would be making a mess...
Actually I use (YYJJJ-HHMM) like 09005-1837, where JJJ is the day of the year as returned by 'date +%j' from the terminal. Anything different would be making a mess when sorting and moving around a lot of small text files. Since I'm used to work from the command line, I prefer a more compact presentation.

I would of thought it would start before the macworld keynote so they could advertise on the live blogs. Looking less likely now though.
That's an interesting idea - don't know why they're not doing it. My guess is that they're waiting for new software to get released during Macworld that they can include as freebies or part of the bundle.
My guess is this Wednesday at 3pm PST. How do I know this? Cuz it says right on MacHeist's macworld info page:
It's the biggest Mac event of the year... and the best deal on the show floor. Get 10 of the hottest Mac apps for just $49. And be sure to drop by our booth at 3 PM on Wednesday for a real "bang"!

So far, the translation table. Might be useful in the future.

Basically, you take the number of the letter in the code, (p = 16, a = 1, etc.) add 10 to it, and that is the number of the decoded letter. if the result is greater than 26, you simply go from 26 to 1 (as if 26+1 = 1, 26+2 = 2, 24+4 = 2, etc...)
Here's the key:
EDIT: added alternate format for decoding key
code p q r s t u v w x y z a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o
decode a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y zcoded = decoded

That would be too cruel, but certainly would lessen the immediate impact on the MH servers.

Actually, I could definitely see them putting up the new Macheist website design that is supposedly coming for that reason. I doubt the 1st heist will start then though. Probably later this week for that.
It's a Caesar shift of +15
so when it starts what exactly happens? are we all racing accross the web to solve puzzles? could it be completely different from last one? can ya solve it offline? what the frig do i do!!!!! im so excited. lol
