The biggest issue most people have with AppZapper is that it misses files. At this point though, it's probably better to go with an alternative than wait for an update.

an AMZING FREE APP to replace app zapper is appCleaner does an amazing job.. even better job than app zapper check it out
I dunno. I was very loyal to Appzapper but found that it did indeed leave many traces of old particles on my computer, Also, I don't like to keep apps that have clearly stopped development. I usually..well zapped them. I sent an email and received a cryptic but encouraging reply...then six months went by. Nothing.
When I got Hazel I deleted Appzapper. It was actually kind of hard to do. It was such a fun and useful little app but I lost faith in the developer...

What should I do? Keep using AppZaper or try using AppCleaner?
Try AppCleaner, as I've said before, it is very good and doesn't cost. Then wait for AppZapper 2.0
Austin Sarner (one of the developers of AppZapper) is very smart and I was trying some of his apps quite a few years ago, so if he does put himself behind V 2.0 properly it will be very good.

Have you some news about a coming new version ?

I've a license of AppZaper, I wanna know what is the best of them.

I've never used AppZapper, but it sounds just like AppCleaner, which is free:

appzapper was part of a macheist bundle (it was the 1st bundle as far as i remember) and i've used it ever since. ![]()
maybe they'll include it in a future bundle. but i can't see any improvements apart form:
* That it acctually deletes the whole folder (with everything in it) when i put it into the app.
* More/better detection.

I like AppZapper, use it quite a bit. But I doubt it will be in a future MacHeist bundle, MacHeist doesn't seem to use any ap twice...
Just another Canadian lost in Michigan...
I've been using AppZapper for a long, long time. But I agree with some of the other here that Sarner tends to create an app then let it languish.
Then again, I'm not really sure what else you could add to AppZapper. Maybe a cache cleaning feature...

um...huh? I don't remember anything about appzapper 2 in a bundle. plenty of licenses for appzapper1 and the site does say free upgrades for life (though i think he'll pull something like saying "that's only if you spend the $12.95 on it" because it says "$12.95 Free upgrades for life" on the same bulletpoint, so I'm thinking if he wanted he could pull something like that, if he ever were to get it out the door.
I do not know which one is better, I have used Appzapper for a long time, just started using appcleaner, which I like a bit better....
Wow! Great find! Thanks.

Get Dropbox. You need it!
This might be my most used app from last years MacHeist. I am constantly downloading shareware and demos that I want to try out knowing that I will soon be zapping them moments later. I didn't realize there was even a version 2.0 in the works or what they could do to improve it. It does everything I need it too.

Hopefully it will be released soon.. I am eagerly waiting for an update. I hope it'll detect more files and will have trash detection like AppCleaner for when I delete my apps before sending them to AppZapper. Until I see more functionality, I'm gonna be sticking with AppCleaner.

I used appzapper for a little while, then I used appdelete, wasn't impressed, moved on to AppCleaner and I haven't looked back since.
The Purps
Switched from AppZapper to AppCleaner recently. I loved AppZapper, but like a lot of y'all I am worried by the lack of updates. AppCleaner seems OK, but like all of the uninstallers I've seen, it misses files/folders occasionally.

That reminds me that I need to give AppCleaner a trial. I've been using AppZapper but now that I have AppCleaner, I like what I hear about it.

To me it seems that Appcleaner ( http://tinyurl.com/2a2nls) finds as many files as AppDelete ($5, http://tinyurl.com/2eubjd), CleanApp ($13, http://tinyurl.com/ckazr3) or the Forklifts ( http://tinyurl.com/29q9ly) app delete feature.
AppZapper (http://appzapper.com/) finds less files, as does Hazels app sweep ( http://tinyurl.com/64skac). There is also the AppTrap ( http://tinyurl.com/3bde5c) preference pane (haven't checked this) and the Application Annihilator (looks less favourable /http://tinyurl.com/czbre8).

I thought that the version was 1.x that we got in the bundle. I don't think they would sell something that is not out yet.
I am sure that AppZapper 2.0 will be released. I heard that the release date was set for about the same time as MDA's CookBook!

My sources tell me sometime in 2095, but they don't have a date yet. ![]()

is there any difference between appcleaner and appzapper?
couldn't see a difference.
You pay for AppZapper and it has less features. Although I still use it as I am such a cheapskate that I can't bring myself to not use it after paying for it!
What would a version 2 even add to the current features? How can you remove apps better?
Find deals on Mac apps at Mac App Deals
@izdale you could make it find more files (it does miss stuff) and have a background app that monitors the trash for starters.

AppZapper makes a cool "zapping" sound when you delete an app. That's about it.

Have you checked Undercover from Obicule? It is theft recovery software that you install on your laptop in case it is ever stolen. It is obviously not much good to you now but it could come in handy (hopefully not, though!) in the future.

Nice application however dont't expect it will show in MH3

Isn't this program the same as the free Appcleaner?
It has the exactly the same interface and seems to work exactly the same.

Most of these cleaning app's use the spotlight index to trace back anything whith the same name in it.
The only (better) exeption is TheUninstaller. But there you have to make a scan before and after with is timeconsuming.
CleanApp comes with a deamon that's scanning app when you launch them and also gets all those hidden files. Files named with just some numbers etc.
When they strated there first 3 beta, this deamon was a real CPU hog. But since then much has improved and now it's very efficient and lightweight.
So in my opinion CleanApp is realy standing out compared to those others. And an other good thing is that the developer Sinium has a record of contious improvements and updates...
I had the same experience as "Bank Robber" with Hazel and Appzapper, but found that with some update Hazel became as potent as Appzapper.
I've been very satisfied with Hazel so far, as it just runs in the background (I also use it to sync a bunch of folders). AppZapper looks cool, though ...

This makes me really mad.
I know it isn't macheist's fault, but is Appzapper 2 coming or is it vaporware.
This is what makes me mad more than anything else. An app developer can take as long as they want making an app, that is fine with me. What is NOT ok is leaving everyone in the dark. No updates, or maybe creating a blog and abandoning it (slightly pretentious cough cough).
And I didn't read the fine print, but it might be a sue-able offense if the purchasers of MH 2 Bundle do not receive beta access.

Wait, watch, listen, link.
Life is a puzzle to be solved with a think.
I got AppZapper also in the MH 2 Bundle. It helped me in the past quite a lot when I had to uninstall or remove apps. It is really simple to use. drag and drop your app from the folder into the AppZapper window, that's it ... for most of the cases ;-)

For those of you wanting something beyond AppZapper, then look at Amnesia from Koingo, especially if you got the Utility Package from the referral program.
I think this is a step forward in this type of app. Search for widgets, plugins, whatever, and uninstall things you didn't even know were there. Brilliant!

For those of you wondering about AppZapper 2, I just want to throw this out there. Your 1.x license (from MacHeist or otherwise) included free updates, so you should get AppZapper 2 upgrade gratis when it's out.
