No offense to any makers of iTunes controllers, but the free BowTie beats most of them. It has the same amount of features as something like CoverSutra, and it's completely free.

I notice that Wincent's given us a special loot-style "MacHeist Edition" version of Synergy. Does this mean that we can't update it at all? (i.e. no point updates, no discounts on major updates)

Oh yes, and while BowTie is quite nice, people like me who predominantly use Tiger can still run Synergy.

I'm loving Synergy so far, I use it all the time. Beats switching to iTunes every time to pause.

It should be under System Preferences, in the Others category. Just open it's preferences and activate it...it should appear on your menu bar

Don't worry... I've used my Mac for over 4 years now and I too sometimes get confused to where some apps get installed. I always check the Applications folder first, if it's not there, then it's under System Preferences...

Hi All,

I'm excited to have Synergy but never saw a serial/reg number and now it's expired. Where would this have gone, or is it just not here yet? Anyone with ideas - thanks!

@presta I don't believe there was a serial number for it, it was a limited promo version.

Does anyone know how to have the "floater" (always on) move from Space to Space?  I looked in System Prefs and there is no Synergy in Spaces.

Synergy is cool... but I'm not sure I see the use for apps like this all the time.  All the little popups and windows tend to interrupt my workflow.  And the hot keys interfere with the hot keys from other apps.  CoverSutra I've found to be a little more useful (at least as far as being able to search for music goes).  The playback controls look good in the menu bar though...

It is a promo version. There is no need for a serial.

i use bowtie, but it's really just acting as a fancy notifier. i find that the function keys on the keyboard are the easiest to use, and don't even need to be memorised, as the controls are printed right there on the keys.

i'm no prophet, but in my opinion, the days of itunes controllers are coming to an end...

Synergy told me that a newer version was available so i downloaded the update and since then am required to add a serial number or am not allowed to use Synergy. A shame too since Synergy replaced "youcontroltunes" which i hated...

...how can I fix this?

I use Coversutra pretty regularly so I am not sure how useful synergy will be. I need to give bowtie a try to see the difference though.

Oh! I had forgotten I had Synergy. I use CoverSutra whenever I remember to open the app, but that's not very open. Does Synergy have much of an advantage over CoverSutra?

Looks like some people don't really care for synergy. I actually like it. Yes, I know what song I'm listening to, but it is cool to see information popup. It doesn't really get in the way, either, because of transparency levels. I also love how the shuffle feature allows me to kick back and work on things rather than jumping to iTunes.

I did have problems at first with the hot keys. I'm a web developer, so "command S" really became annoying as far as shuffling goes. But now that it is changed, I love Synergy. Thanks MacHeist!

I have not had a need for an iTunes app but I am confused - I now have CoverSutra, KavaTunes, and Synergy.
What would one use for what, pros and cons etc?

I use both CoverSutra and Synergy. I bought Synergy a few years ago, and I love it. I use CoverSutra more for linking with Last.fm. Synergy puts the itunes controller right in the menu bar. I like that. It's a pretty simple application that doesn't get in the way for me. I've fiddled around a bit with KavaTunes, but haven't quite figured it out. I don't think I'm going to, unfortunately, because I think it's main emphasis is on something I don't need. We'll see.

Any way of getting the update?

Synergy sorta doesn’t work well with Snow Leopard anymore hmm I can't seem to make it play with hot keys sad I was hoping I could update it.

Do you use Quicksilver to quickly find and launch apps? Because CoverSutra and I think Ecoute allow you to do the same except with song lookups. I invoke one with command-option-\ and the other with command-option-].
