Yeah, these guides have helped me out a whole lot of times. Sometimes I get stuck, so its nice that I can get some hints or find out the logic that was used to figure things out.

Once I get stuck and end up having to read the logic behind everything, it helps me become a better heist'r by learning more about how the game works.

Thanks, a million

Great guide I found it quite useful for the blackjack part. That stumped me.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.

Awesome! There are walkthroughs and then there are genuine tour guides. Yours falls in the latter category. Thanks!

Nicely explained. Thanks!

Nice walkthru.  Now I'm trying to figure out how they pulled that "speaking different text than what you've highlighted" trick.

That was a neat trick. And all you used was a <span> command with CSS styling. I love the little details like this you guys do. Well done, MacHeist.

Hi Everyone, this is a full guide showing you how to do Mission 01 without just giving you the URLs. I know there are a lot of posts like this but I am going to try and make this more concise than the others and will also tell you tell you the thought process to get the answers

Lets Begin!

**WARNING** This may only work in Safari

DEBRIEFING:

First of all download all three of the files on the debriefing to your desktop by secondary/right clicking  them and selecting "Save Linked File as". You can get them here:

1994.sc
1995.sc
1996.sc

FILE 1

Now go to file one and you will see a bunch of gibberish below the video copy all of this into a text editor (Its an ASCII picture). If at first you cant see the pictures try resizing the text or the window and changing the font to Courier

It should look like this:

http://img.skitch.com/20090218-jjbfsg5a … m4jc84.jpg

The picture is of Smoke, a Bee, The Roman Numeral IV (4) and a Fire, Put it all together and you get: http://smokebeforefire.com. Thats the first part of file 1 done! big_smile

PLACE YOUR BETS

Ok now if you click on the above URL you should see some cards and some writing above saying "Place your Bets, J is worth K, King is worth M, and A is worth A of course. it should look like this:

http://img.skitch.com/20090218-f7eij96w … hxkc7b.jpg

First of all you need to ask yourself, how many cards are there in each suit in a deck of cards? The answer is 13

Now look at the Cards, You may notice that there are only two suits which means there are 26 cards in the deck. What else has 26 characters in it? The Alphabet! So now the sentence makes sense. The first suit (Clubs) represents the first 13 letters and the second suit (Hearts) represents the last 13 letters. When you assign letters according to this revised cypher, you get the sentence "In the Year of the Rat. So now go to http://intheyearoftherat.com

IN THE YEAR OF THE RAT

You should now be on a page which says "Index of /" at the top with a file called prejection.sc below it. Right beside the file there is a link: "Viewer". Click this to be brought to a page with table filled in with some dates and a lot of errors. The page is unable to run. Inorder to make it possible to run you need to change the date on your local machine to the correct date, which is 18th of July 1996 or you can just go straight to: http://intheyearoftherat.com/viewer/liv … e=07181996

**WARNING** Changing the time on your machine may cause problems if you have Time Machine running and will re-trigger iCal event reminders and Emails

This will bring you to a new table which is able to run and at the bottom it should say  stackthedeck. This is the first passphrase. So now go to http://nextinternal.com/stackthedeck and click on replace file in the top right corner and choose the file 1996.sc.dms which you saved to your desktop. Make sure you wait until it says 'File Replaced!"

FILE 2

Go back to the briefings page and go to File 2 you should see some more gibberish:

eɪtʃ tʰiː tʰiː pʰiː ˈkoʊlən slæʃ slæʃ ˈdʌbəljuː ˈdʌbəljuː ˈdʌbəljuː dɒt tu ˈdʌbəljuː əʊ ɑr diː ɛs wʌn ɛs əʊ juː ɛn diː dɒt siː əʊ ɛm

These are phonetics if you highlight the text and then go to "Safari>Services>Speech>Start Speaking Text" in the menu bar your computer will read them for you. If it is too fast for you to understand then go to "System Preferences>Speech" and reduce the speed. It should read out a URL: http://2words1sound.com. Put this into the Address Bar and go to it.

THE PODIUM

You should now be on a page with a podium thats says

For sum, the thrill of the chase is all that matters. No matter how you frays it, whether in a positive or negative light, it’s all about the excitement. Even when the weights bear down on your chest, like the force of the heavens, it chance for glory. Bee that as it may, the whole is often grater than the sum of its parts, so having strong opinions and being herd in these times of yearning is all that you can pursue…Your hands are tied

It should look like this:

http://img.skitch.com/20090218-mqeqhygi … ibmr6d.jpg

You should notice alot of typos:

sum = some
frays = phrases
mite = might
bee = be
grater = greater
herd = heard

Some phrases might be greater heard.

So which phrase do you think stands out the most? Highlight the sentence Your hands are tied and go to "Safari>Services>Speech>Start Speaking Text" again and it should say:

Your hands are free when you enter the code tongue-tied.

The passphrase is tonguetied so go to http://nextinternal.com/tonguetied (Make sure to remove the hypen) and replace file 1994.sc with the one on your desktop

Yay thats 2 Files Done big_smile

File 3 now go to Briefings again and click on File 3. You should some numbers:

58,137
71,56
6,11
28,90
101,44
22,70

You will see what these are for later. Below the numbers is a link to a Device: http://holding.macheist.com/device . You should see a device with the numbers 4180921657 put into it. The idea of this is to get rid of all the pieces of the pies on both sides by putting in the correct number. You will know you have put in the correct number if it removes a piece and doesn't add one.

The correct numbers are: 1603035184. This is an ISBN and if you google it you should find the book "The Time Machine" by H.G Wells. Now if your wondering what the numbers before were used for, this is where they come into play. You'll notice that there are two sets of numbers seperated by a comma the first number is the page number and the second is the word number e.g Page 58, Word 137. You should get:

Page 58, Word 137: "be"
Page 71, word 56 is: "not"
Page 6, word 56 is: "the"
Page 28, word 90 is: "servants"
Page 101, word 44 is: "of"
Page 22, word 70 is: "words"

Be Not the Servants of Words

This give us http://benottheservantsofwords.com

BE NOT THE SERVANTS OF WORDS

Go to the above URL and you should see a tablet with some sentences in different languages engraved in it (The top one is Irish, but i can't understand it tongue It literally means "nonsense lie/delude upright stupid vertical without worth") It should look like this:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/macheist/missions/1/tablet.jpg

You now need to look for the passphrase. One of the things that should jump out at you is that there is space at the same part of every sentence just to the left of the middle. If you take the first letter of every word after the space you should get the passphrase: Chronology.

Now go to http://nextinternal.com/chronology and Replace the file 1995.sc with the one on your desktop.

THE KEYPAD AND GESTURE

Now go back to the Briefings page and watch the new available video. You'll notice that the dark mysterious figure is folding  a piece of paper and cuts it to the shape of a mountain range. At the end of the video she says "The Secret is in the Mountains". If you were to unfold the paper that she cut, There would be a fat X in the middle. Now go back to the Hompage and click on the keypad on the left below the locked safe. Press any number to activate it. A Co-ordinate plain sort of thing should appear. You now draw the X into it to complete the mission. It should look like this:

http://www.macheist.com/static/missions … 86d006.jpg

If you do this correctly a video should play of the safe opening.

You have now completed Mission 01!!!!!!! You now have Freeverse Hearts, AllSecure, Sticky Notes and a $2 Bundle Discount! big_smile

I hope you guys like this guide and find it helpful, feel free to make any suggestions!

Thanks to markbett for telling me about a some mistakes I made!

This is great, I completed the mission, but went to the forums, and didn't do some of the parts
