Yeah, I'm not seeing any reason to use AllSecure instead of 1Password except for visual reasons (and that would... um... MAKE YOU SHALLOW!!!)

smile I guess I just don't have any reason to encrypt any files. Can anyone provide me with an example of a practical file a normal person would encrypt?

How does it work?

I'm going away from the norm it seems when I say I'll likely use both. I haven't used 1password for more than just passwords. I'll likely continue to use it that way as well. AllSecure, however, has a great interface for storing files, licenses, etc. Granted, I can store most of those in 1password, but the interface and the addition of storing files there gives AllSecure the advantage for that. So yeah, I love 1password and will continue to use it for all my password needs, but AllSecure will likely be my new go-to for everything else secure. Thanks MH and EdgeRift!

Thanks for all your comments.
Till now I was not planing to even launch it, but reading this has confinced me to giv it a better look. I might like what I see after all.

I'm still in the process of getting used to it. Like many, I love 1Passwd too much to just let go of it's convinience. But, I think I move all my serials and the like to AllSecure, plus anything I do  not need to sync with my iPod touch via 1Passwd

EDIT: AllSecure sure has a nifty user interface. Very well done

Great discussion! It's always great to see fresh perspectives on how 1Password stacks up against other apps.

The main thread of discussion has been about the look and feel of AllSecure vs. 1Password. I was mentioning in another thread that the UI in the main 1Password application is indeed in serious need of a refresh. The browser integration in 1Password allows it to integrate directly within your workflow without needing to launch the main application, and so it is not used as much as the in-browser features. Because of this, we invested our time into making the browser windows look pretty, and the main application UI lagged.

As 1Password matured and we added more and more features to the main application, it started being used more and more, so the UI became much more important. Thanks to feedback like this thread, we understand that the UI needs to be improved, and thankfully we actually started doing just that.  Dan, our designer (and forum admin here too!), has been working his tail off on making the version 3 release of 1Password look amazing. I think you will be blown away at how delicious Dan's new design is smile

I'll use AllSecure to encrypt files, should the need arise. So far I haven't had that need.

1Password has been working very well with my 500 items stored there. I am in Finance and the ability to keep the program active for a time and login to various accounts, often at the same financial institution, (drop down list of all possible logins for a web address) saves me so much time.

Not to mention the peace of mind it gives me knowing I am not typing anything in the browser window. I'm pretty sure we (Mac community) don't have a problem, yet, of hacks and such capturing keystrokes but I wanted to be ready if and when that day came. I have more than my own identity to protect so it's just the responsible thing to do.

the only reason this beats 1password that i can find is that with 1password it has the button within the browser to autofill your info where as with allsecure the app has to be open and you have to click the arrow next to your info to get it to auto fill this is just not as convenient especially when at least for right now it seems that once i had a lot of passwords it would be hard to tell the difference without actually clicking on each individual one. if anyone knows of a way to auto fill without having to have the app open please inform me!

On February 11,2009 I posted something that I really felt would ring true with how a lot of us are feeling based on a variety of post that seemed to be looking for something similar. The theme that I was hearing was lets work together to make things better for all members instead of trying to make the other teams fail at any cost. Don't misread me, I feel competition is a good healthy thing. However, in this case it didn't feel like things were going in that direction. I'm posting this in each forum to make sure most members see it.

A few days have past since this post and when I sat down at my computer today it was still on my mind. I had a thought that those that feel this way could make a post acknowledging it and ask the Directorate to remove all colors and to return us to one community working together to solve the final "Heists." Who knows maybe this is exactly what the Directorate is looking for.

The following was the post from February 11,2009:

When we first entered this phase of the Heist I don't anyone who had a real clear understanding of what direction it would take us. Initially it seemed that the more comments we made and the more we changed our avatars, the more points we earned. To come up with something that would meet these expectations  I developed a premise that my avatar was missing and other avatars could create dialog regarding attempts to try to find and return my avatar to its rightful place. Yesterday there seemed to be some clarity on what we perceived  needed to be done with the addition of teams based on assigned colors. Tonight when I started reading comments on how to move up the rankings of teams etc... I thought maybe we needed to reconsider the direction we were heading. I felt we needed to forget about what had been done prior to this point and see what I can do to help bring my color's ranking up. However, once I started typing I stopped. My thoughts had gone back to where I started and as I looked back at my screen guess what I saw. Yes, it was my avatar.

The imaginary journey that originally was thought to have no real purpose brought me to what I think is the place the powers that be at MacHeist would like us to find: To bring everyone together to work as one team to win all that MacHeist has to offer.

I have a place where dreams are born,
and time is never planned. It's not on any chart,
you must find it with your heart.

I have been a fan of 1Password for a while now -- actually I think since it came out.  I do have to say I like the interface of AllSecure a whole lot better, the idea of it remaining a separate app that needs to be open for me to use... I much prefer browser integration.  I will not disparage AllSecure as I have no ability to compose a program from scratch, but I prefer 1Password until AllSecure develops a bit more.

I gave All Secure a try today. While it works well it didn't meet the needs I had at the moment which was to create an encrypted disc. I found it interesting that it copied the folder I wanted encrypted to its vault and that the source folder was untouched and unencrypted. So you have to remember to delete the source. It seemed a lot of bother even though the interface works simply. It's nice to know I have it available and may use it at times for small things.

What I ended up do is turning on encyrption in Toast's Data window and burned the encrypted disc which took about one minute longer than burning the same disc without encryption. So that is the tool I needed for this specific job.

Me too. I tried AllSecure and it's interface is very nice and all, but it would be way too much trouble to migrate all the info I already have on my mac in this app's database. If I'd start from fresh, i might feel otherwise. Right now, without the ability to import, it's not worth the effort.

As all of you, I love my 1Password, it's syncing (through Dropbox and external app), it's several browsers integration, it's iPod/iPhone app, it's easy to manage keychain format and ability to keep my software licenses. Does anyone here know if AllSecure provides this, because I read somewhere they have an iPod/iPhone app in the works, and, if I were able to import my passwords and licenses, I would switch immediately!

Spotted an update to version 1.1.1 today so tried it and it asked for my registration details again.  No problem I have them I think...

I prefer to download the new version and keep a copy of that rather than update online, but I always keep a copy of the original download version.

Invalid code.  OK so I reinstall the version I downloaded from my Loot.. Invalid code!  I'm locked out of AllSecure and have a 5 minute time-out after after 3rd try to re-register.

I re-apply for my licence and the result is precisely the same as the licence I already have.

Anyone else having trouble?

I'm currently hugely relieved that all my sensitive data is still in Wallet & 1 Password respectively and if my trial data in AllSecure is lost simply for trying to upgrade I'll never be able to trust it in the future.

OK, well since I had no sensitive data in there, fortunate considering the nature of this application, I used AppCleaner to completely remove it.

I subsequently installed the new updated version that went without a hitch.  I have of course lost all the data held in there.

If you are using an earlier version and update by installing the newer DMG over the top it would appear you have to re-enter you licence, however there is no facilty to re-enter you user name.

Re-installing the original version does not help unfortunately.

If you are expecting people to trust you with data that is sufficiently sensitive that they would protect in this way then arriving at a position where they cannot access their data at all really isn't good enough.

I think I'm going to stick to 1 Password and Wallet for a little while longer, but I will drop edgerift a line to let then know my experiences.  It should be an easy fix for them.

Back up and running on v1.1.1 but with no data.
