Title's just misleading enough, but not misleading.
Isn't four numbers sort of, well, not enough?
That can be guessed if someone spends enough time on it. Just a thought. ![]()

Maybe you can only have a limited amount of tries, as once you know, it'll take no more than two or three.
Really, once you know it should only take you one... ![]()

I know, but couldn't some just put it through a brute-force-esque deal? It wouldn't take more than like, two hours...

I'd be so mad if some one did, It'd wreck all of our fun!
Ehh....
Although it hasn't been spelled out exactly, I'm assuming that at the end of a heist, you will find the 4-digit code.
Then you come back here, type it in, and get your "loot"
I agree seems to make the most sense.
Also the safe will probably will have a limit number of tries, since that common with password/number things. Maybe it will have a time delay or disable your account. I have already figured out how to remove the panel, but I am not going to go pushing buttons. I don't want to miss out on all the upcoming fun and "loot"
Disabling an account sounds good to me. No more than five tries, and after those five, it bans you from the Safe for, I dunno, 12 hours?

Even if the safe didn't limit the number of tries, it won't be as fun playing along with MacHeist ![]()
Speaking of playing, I lost The Game.

I lost the game, too.
Yeah, I'm in it purely for fun. I have no way of obtaining a Mac, so it's all useless to me; just fun.

Apparently it was spelled out:
"MacHeist is an event for Mac users who are addicted to great software. The event centers around the safe. Each week, you will undergo a heist, and on completion, receive a combo code to unlock the safe. The reward? Free, cool apps, and money off the final week's bundle" (Main Page)
actually there are 10000 combos, and that wouldn't take too long.
10000 @ 1/second woult take 2 hours 46 minutes. (done by a program)
If the work was split between 10 humans, and each person could enter 1 every 5 seconds, it wou be 1 hour 23 minutes.
Sweet.
they may not have to limit it.
there are a lot of combinations.
9 cubed = 729 combos
Actually it's 10 cubed, so 1000. (0-9).

Yeah. It really wont matter though. This is a promotional. They went to sell the stuff. So I don’t imagine they will put limits on the final guess. Maybe the free stuff, but that promotional too. I doubt there will ever be a lock. the idea is to give the stuff away and hook you. The game is just an original (and fantastic) way to garner interest. Limitations would be silly for them. Unless the community cries enough, then they would have to do it for images sake.

Actually it's 10 to the fourth, so 10,000.
Tricky, that one.
...too close for missiles. I'm switching to guns.

Heh, no, you're right. I just went with "cubed".

Apparently hubert doesn't play a big role. He might show up in a couple heists.
The assumption is that the number is composed of four digits. It might be that each "number" is comprised of 4 integers, and there's four numbers in total (meaning effectively a string of 16 integers). Get what I mean?
I haven't seen anything to confirm, or deny, this idea.
Ohh, and hello everyone too ![]()

So you mean each number is representation of another hex number? Interesting idea, especially if people start finding 16 numbers instead of 4. Though, this does nothing to stop someone from using a program to crack so. It only punishes those trying to do the contest the legit way. I, don't see it happening.
There might however be some binary or hex or something like that heist. Which I wouldn't mind doing. Bring me back to my college days.

or 1226, my birthday. Damn, we're all coupled. Too bad y'all's birthdays don't fall on a day when everyone's hung over from eggnog.

I say it's 1337.
OMG I was thinking the same thing, only because I was obssesive over the whole afi mystery a few months back.
actually, who said that they all had to be numbers?????
I think you're all thinking too small... If the combo was made of only the 10 number digits 0-9 there could only be 256 different possibilities... which of course would be incredibly easy to brute force through.
But...
If you add in letters to the equation we're talking about 1,679,616 different possibilities if my math does not fail me. Brute force or not, you'd be here a while.
Just a thought.

EDIT
darn, jschulman09 posted while I was writing my post, beat me to the punch.
I know for a fact it's not in hex because when you reload the page totally from scratch, the JS doesn't cover up the numbers with the image and you see a standard "telephone" keypad just before the cover goes over.
Maybe I hate everything. Or maybe I just hate you.
one more thought: who says that each key can only be pressed once? maybe with each successive click, the number changes color.
the code wouldn't just be '1337', but the 1 could be red, the first 3 is yellow, the second 3 is green, and the 7 is black....
then you've got 10,000 x [number of colors], and that could be as large a number as you like!
Has anyone noticed that if you move your mouse over the "display" of the keypad very slowly and clicking a lot, that you will get a text cursor for just a moment?
Weird.
