Would be a great app IF ONLY MY 1 YEAR OLD MAC BOOK WAS FAST ENOUGH FOR IT! I am slightly disappointed that I waited with eager anticipation for this app only to find out I cant use it. A 1 year old mac is apparently a dinosaur in the Mac App World. a Great App, Horrible spec requirements.

I have a 2 year old MacBook and BoinxTV runs fine, 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, and 1GB of memory, I don't know why so many people are having problems with this app

@JONAH237: Please read my post about MacBooks, the thing is that video processing needs a good graphics card, and the MacBooks only come with rather weak graphics cards.

I know a lot of people are bummed that Boinx prompts them when they use thier older integrated graphics card but at least the software is being clear with you. Better than it pretending it will work fine then spitting out crappy results. Video needs a decent graphics card, thats just how it is.
This has always been on the Boinx website (and its common sense) so it should come to no surprise. The rest of the bundle is well worth the money if you can't run Boinx.
The BoinxTV Sponsored Edition requires a 5 second credit for BoinxTV in every video created with BoinxTV. To make it easy for you, the BoinxTV Sponsored Edition comes with a dazzling "Made with BoinxTV" credit movie you can add to your recording. You are free to create your own credit of course. Maybe you want to mention to your audience that you're using BoinxTV.
You just have to make it clear you used Boinx, you don't have to use their graphic. I think sponsored edition is a great idea to allow non-professionals to buy and use BoinxTV. A 5 second ad is worth 300$ savings.

I have got to say Boinx Tv is a pretty powerful way of editing and effects of video !! Though the layout is a bit complicating and i have to say i think they have cramped up to much within one interface !!!
As you say bdegrande i am a good friend of Don and i would like to see an inner view of this application!!
When it comes to video editing i am a good damn editor 
but people like Don and CAMERABOI on youtube are professionals coming to video editing !! Boinx Tv is an application that is mostly used i think for tv shows and live shows not for video tutorials and video editing its for effects and beautiful layouts !!
The templates are pretty good i think they could add more useful ones !!

Not so much the fault of BoinxTV. When I got my first Macbook (with Intel GMA 945 chipset), my ages old iBook (with discrete Radeon 9200 chip) beat it by leaps and bounds in terms of graphics performance. Even WoW ran more fluidly on my iBook than on the Macbook. Later Macbooks use Intel's GMA X1300 chipset, which is also crap. The current aluminium unibody Macbooks use nVidia's Geforce 9400 Mobile, which is not as crappy as Intel's line of chipsets, but way crappier than what you'd think from reading the name. You get the idea, I guess...
Summary: If you want to do any serious real-time graphics processing, don't get a low-end notebook, not even if it's the low end of Apple's lineup, and still expensive...

BTW, for all those saddened by the fact that GrabberRaster would cost another handful of bucks:
Live streaming (via ustram for example) can also be done with the free CamTwist!
BoinxTV is great I think, I'm really trying to find a use for it now! Love to play around with all the beautiful layers and effects!

I have been playing with BoinxTV, CamTwist and uStream and it does work. However, it is very CPU intensive. Also, if you want to redirect the audio, you will need to get Soundflower to redirect the audio channels. CamTwist only captures the video.

I'm doing rather good with this app besides the fact that I don't have a good enough area to make a proper green screen effect but it's rather good. As soon as I get all of it down i'll be able to make some great broadcasts.

hi folks, got the boinx tv license and when I go to put it in it doesn't work... following the install instructions to the letter... is it a bad license Macheist?

BoinxTV works okay on my MacBook (it better since I just got this Mac in August). The program runs fine until I try to close it. Then it takes forever to close. About to try a video playback now.
EDITED TO ADD: Video playback is amazing. No pauses and recorded at the Template Default (640xsomething). My MacBook has the x3100 graphics card. I used an overlay plus the PinP with Safari 4, EventBox, and Firefox running.
So I say try it first.

My husband uses CamTwist. He's got a white MacBook. Will you recommend that he buy the bundle if it only was to get BonixTV, or is he better off with CamTwist?

... which prompts me to ask these questions: Are that many of you actually going to use it? And do you really need it?
Of all the people I know, the majority of whom are heavy computer users, only a handful have any interest in video-making. For most of them, iMovie is more than enough and even my friend who is most passionate about video has little to no interest in doing live broadcasts like BoinxTV markets itself for.
This and Kinemac seem like applications that the MacHeist crew threw in to inflate the "price" of the bundle and make it seem like more of a value. I imagine that most customers will download but never really use (other than poking around in) either of those applications. I don't mean to imply that there's anything necessarily wrong with that. I'm sure that virtually every MacHeist customer is excited about different applications and doesn't care about others. I definitely feel like I got a good value out of MacHeist (particularly when The Hit List is unlocked if it turns out to be as useful an application as it seems). I just know that I, and I assume most other customers, wouldn't have been up in arms upset if MacHeist hadn't included any video editing software.

Well what the program does usually determines the requirements. The job Boinx does is no easy task, and the GPU you get with your computer is usually the first thing to suffer. On day one, MacBooks and mini's are limitted in some respects by their integrated video, most notably with games. There is a reason Intel's GPU's are the bane of developers and sometimes consumers.

The developer himself has said that it will run on even older Macbooks,and that there are even people running it on GMA950 chipsets. The issue is how well it will perform, you might need to lower resolution to get acceptable performance, etc.
Multilayered video is one of the few apps that actually does need a lot of computing power.

I only briefly played with Camtwist in order to get the Live-to-Internet going. I think that BoinxTV is more powerful in that it handles both video and audio to create a full TV show when you do Live-to-Disk. There is some overlap between the two functions, but the UI of BoinxTV is much more intuitive and has the layers concept and more tweaking capabilities. I wish BoinxTV had the ability to convert their output into a live stream to the uStream TV and others, eliminating the need for GrabberRaster and others.
I cannot comment on the performance for a MacBook since I have a 2.4 Ghx Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, but the product worked great when I used the MacBook Pro hard drive as the source and my external Seagate drive as the target when doing a Live-to-Disk program.
For US$39, I would highly recommend BoinxTV and the entire bundle. However, he doesn't need to take my word for it...why doesn't he download a trial copy?

just purchased. Under BoinxTV is says "the license temporarily failed to generate. Please be patient as we work to correct the problem." When the problem is corrected will I know?

So... does anyone know how to make your cursor/mouse appear when using the ScreenCast recording option in BoinxTV? I'm really hoping there's an option I'm missing. That's kind of dumb if they don't include it just so you buy Mousepose...
Also, what settings do you find work best for you? I keep dropping frames when I use my iSight camera on my MacBook Pro (2GB RAM, 2.2 GHz Duo Core, 250GB 7200 RPM HD). Would I see significant results if I upgrade to 4GB of RAM?

I need to get a cheap camera to use with this... I could do firewire from a DV camera. But maybe just a better webcam, I only want to play around and maybe down the line do some recording/production work. I love this program! Runs fine on my MBP!

Kinemac, Boinx and Wiretap are the reasons I bought this bundle. I have other studio recording software but these three make a nice "utility" set for doing quick videos.

I gotta say this was the app I wanted, and now that I got it I'm a tad let down, I think the biggest gripe is lack of support for streaming services. And yes I know grabberraster or whatever is out there, but that is fairly flawed at things and clunky, let alone it was a puzzle to find the download link on their horrid site. The biggest issue is I need my screen to work with Boinxtv and can't give room to the preview window for grabber, and grabber doesn't work with spaces so I can't put the preview and it in another space.
Hard Drive recording is great, but I was really looking forward to using this with ustream, if they add streaming support right out of Boinx this app would be 110% killer.

I was hopping to stream to Ustream and find this Grabbe Raster thing that I must buy to use it, it was a big loss for me. But the BoinxTV program itself for offline creation is great.

Could you elaborate on the performance issues encountered with the NVIDIA 9400, are these issues likely to be fixed soon? I have a new MacBook (2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 9400) and the performance is less than brilliant, is there anything that you can do to help?

Its the age old "a dedicated graphics card is superior ..." a mantra Apple always espoused before they launched the Mini with a GMA950 onboard GPU. New Nvidia or not its still an onboard GPU sharing the system RAM. I guess a MBP using the 9600 would be fine.

The hint here is in the previous post by the developer, when he talks about 'any decent firewire camera' so unfortunately it might be the USB issue for now, although I wouldn't put it past these guys to sort it, there are many poor USB cameras they won't want to support, so drawing a clear line was possibly important to them.

Here is the issue with those USB camcorders:
They don't offer their live signal over USB. Like this we don't get their videostream and so they can't be used in a live production. You can still pull the videos off and import them into BoinxTV.
This is why we are pushing so hard towards firewire cams.

From what I've seen and used so far with this app, I think it's very solid. I don't have a problem with the 5 second, made with Boinx thing. Really. It's only 5 seconds. Seriously.
I work with middle school students doing some video production. This app will be great for improving that production.
