To everyone having issues registering the app... just keep trying. I had to hit "Unlock" 38 times before it finally took.
My money is on an overloaded validation server so please give it some patience and time.
Actually to counter this, I'd recommend to hold off until the rush is over and try again. Hitting unlock 38 times will only help kill the server. ![]()

Happy to find Espresso unlocked. Wow and so much money raised for excellent causes. It doesn't get any better than this.

I unlocked mine early to avoid this, but I wasn't going to use it until MH unlocked it. Glad it's unlocked, and hope their servers catch up.
I hope Espresso develops into something most would compare favorably to Coda.
The potential is there.

F everyone. Scribbles is neat!
Well, it looks like the servers are finally catching up with the stress of having to give out 50,000+ serial numbers all at once. Also, the version available for download from the "My Receipt" or "My Order" section is not the most current version. Skip the update step and download 1.0.1 directly from MacRabbit.
(On a side note: I can't post links? seriously?? I mean, I understand the reason, but a little more warning may have been nice - like while composing the message. I spend a minute or two looking up how to properly format links in BBCode, and when I went to preview... bupkis! Ah, I digress. If it's a matter of stopping spamming before it starts, I can support the decision.)
Is anyone else losing their ftp publishing settings when they close the app and restart it?
I read on theif forums it's an intermittent bug, but intermittent would imply after the 10th or so try saving my publishing settings it would stick...

Just tested it, and I'm not seeing any problem with it retaining my FTP info. I would normally give suggestions here, but-like everyone else here-I just got the software and I haven't a clue as to what the quirks are yet. Best of luck!
Too bad, the only thing Espresso does for me, it crashes as soon as I try to open a menu or activate the main window :-(
Looks like I need to keep the registration somewhere until a functioning version will come out...
Wow,that was fast :-) I just realzed, there is a verion 1.0.1 available at the macrabbit.com website. That version solved my crash problem! Thumbs up!
Signatures are lame

Are you using the release you downloaded from the MacHeist link? Because there's an updated out already.

That inability to post URLs is really inconvenient when I have something relevant.

And my helpful info was preempted by the o/p. (probably because I had to mangle my URL... I'm sorry, I'm just being ridiculous)
I tried out the 1.0, and the app feels completely unfinished.
There's a PHP sugar built in to Espresso, but the separate PHP sugar you can download is a different version (with more features), so if you install it you end up with two PHP language choices and a third, PHP-HTML.
The auto-complete is horrible to try and work around. I find I inadvertently end up selecting various functions I didn't even want to enter - and when they're auto-inserted into the code, all of the available parameters for that function (and all of their extra brackets and readable syntax) are inserted as well, making for a lot of backspacing or selecting and deleting so it'll get out of your way so you can put your own parameter values.
The live preview is nice, but without a second monitor (or one larger than 1440x900, at least), it's still a pain to have to switch back and forth between windows.
I didn't test or try the uploading, downloading, syncing portion of Espresso, so no comments on that.
As of now I'd say hands down, Coda still takes the cake. I'm really hoping for Espresso to be the next big web development app; I'd love to support it. It needs a lot more work before it's ready, though.
ouch! looks like there's still some work to be done on this app then. Hopefully the time between updates won't be long.
Can someone help me please?
I purchased the bundle today when Espresso was unlocked but still need my serial sent to me because there was an error with the receipt generated that reads:
"A PHP Error was encountered
Severity: Warning
Message: mysql_real_escape_string() expects parameter 2 to be resource, boolean given
Filename: mysql/mysql_driver.php
Line Number: 232"

PM me if interested in it.
Free and cheap software keeps me from acquiring it through morally objectionable means.
anyone else still waiting for their serial?
update: I went to the MacRabbit site and did a serial lookup and it was immediately mailed to me! Much thanx, MacRabbit/MacHeist!
Thanks, I just did that too and the serialnumber was sent together with my CSSEdit Serial... ![]()
There is NO signature, do you see a signature?
Yay, unlocked.

My Receipts says the serial has been sent, checked spam and it wasn't there and wasn't in my inbox. Retrieve serial from within Espresso, got an instant email with this:
--- Espresso ---
1. Make sure you have the newest Espresso
2. When Espresso is open, choose "Unlock Espresso..." in the Purchase menu and paste the code into the field.

Did they "plan" on everything getting unlocked? ;-)

Yup. I did a license recovery from MacRabbit on the the 25th of March and got my serial for Espresso.

Have you upgraded to version 1.0.1? Try downloading version 1.0.1 from the MacRabbit web site. I'd post the link, but apparently I'm unable to because I'm a new member.

Let me help you out: http://macrabbit.com/espresso/get/
Yesterday, my receipt said Espresso serial number was sent. Today, my serial number appeared on my MacHeist receipt. The exact opposite occurred with Delicious Library 2. Hmmmmm?
iMac, therefore I am.
Espresso crashed the first time I wanted to use it off demo mode
Bit of a disappointment … I think I may have to return to it in 6 months' time when they've ironed out some of the problems and added a few more features (eg search file names in FTP folders)
It would be real nice for Espresso to include or offer a better option for integration with CSSEdit.
I'm starting to like it though. I know MacRabbit doesn't want to hurt CSSEdit sales, but if they wanna put Espresso up against Coda they should get CSSEdit in there.

I'm disappointed with Espresso. It feels like a glorified text editor with syntax colouring for some languages. Dragging files in the project into the current file (to create a link or insert an image) inserts the absolute path of the file on my disk! [img src="/Users/me/Documents/Project_1/photos/me.jpg"/] doesn't work well once it's uploaded to a web server. And no, the upload function doesn't do any path translation.

At the moment Espresso doesn't have support for media of any kind. So you can't get previews of images, Flash or PDF files. You also can't integrate them into your pages via drag and drop (this creates a path to your disk, not the site). Nor can you upload them directly via FTP without first publishing your site. So if you quickly swap out an image Espresso offers you no way to upload it without doing a multiple step full site publish.
With that in mind and considering live preview is fundamentally broken and FTP is problematic, Espresso at this stage seems positioned as a text editor with solid language support. So if you don't need FTP or preview or don't work with a lot of media, odds are you'll really like this app. Otherwise you might very well be disappointed.

I totally agree. That will give Espresso an edge. I am hoping that they will do this soon. It's a pain in the butt to have to have both apps open at the same time without integration.
Does anyone else feel the same way?

It was discussed extensively in the beta program but the only official word from MacRabbit was that some CSSEdit features will eventually make it to Espresso. There was no specific timeline or sense of urgency about this and no specific features were mentioned so I don't think we're going to see any substantial integration within the near future. At best we might get a way to at least open CSSEdit files from within Espresso within the next few point releases (though not even that's been confirmed).
I'm loving Espresso. Using dreamweaver was so much of a clutter.
I agree wholeheartedly. I enjoy coding with Espresso. It's faster and more responsive. Sometimes less is more. ![]()

I expected more out of Espresso. Not sure if anyone else has this issue, but the preview doesn't work if you have the css file open. You don't even have to be doing edits, as long as its open in the Workspace, the preview will not work for me.
It needs support for images. I get the feeling it was rushed for MacHeist, and it needs some work to boost its rep.

It's a well known issue for those who've been using it for a while. You can force a preview update.
Make sure you have the new update too for stability everyone.
The Optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds, the Pessimist fears this is true.
I tried out the beta version of Espresso months ago, and couldn't figure it out then... I was hoping that it would become more intuitive to me once version 1.0 came out... Unfortunately, it hasn't happened.
I just want to connect to a site on an existing server, and edit the files... Am I missing something here?
I can't even get the program to retain ftp info when I save a project.
It's not a bad app, I just think MacRabbit may have forgotten it's meant to work on web pages for a while when putting it together.

I have fiddled with the server settings for some time and gave almost up. Last thing I tried was omitting the ftp:// from the server line, and now it works! huzzah!
I never used ftp:// in the server name.![]()
Actually I tried for the heck of it, no change though.
I figured I can just leave the app running and what harm is there in having to enter the info any time I start it. Still, it's such a minor thing it makes me wonder why the annoyance.
A better preview would be nice, as well, but all in all, nice utility.

I struggled with that issue for a little while. How do you "force a preview update"? Reload doesn't work. You have to close the CSS file from the workspace to get it to apply.

Considering that CSSEdit was an early pioneer of live previewing, I'm pretty sure Jan will be beefing that up. Espresso is young, but we would not have banked on it (and/or The Hit List) as final unlock applications if we weren't firm believers in Jan and Andy's longterm plans for their apps.
