Do you have to enter licenses from older purchased apps manually??
Yes. I haven't found any fast ways of importing serial numbers that have actually saved me time over manual copy & paste. I've switched all the info to 1Password as I already have lots of stuff in there.
The Optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds, the Pessimist fears this is true.
FYI Looks like Kedisoft did some listening to some of the people who had feature requests and made some fairly significant changes to AppShelf:
Changes in 1.4
Password encrypted database
Will display default application icon nowChanges in 1.3.1
Fixed a bug that occurs when saving on Tiger
The import file will now be imported when opening AppShelf the first timeChanges in 1.3
Pasteboard support for registration name, email and serial key
Fixed attachments issue with duplicate applications
Changed detail PanelChanges in 1.2
New icons
Searching with spotlight
Import of licenses from plist files
Improved performance
Some UI improvements
The latest 1.4 update is free for people with the original MH version of AppShelf.

Is this a full retail license, like as though it were part of the bundle? Or a loot-style limited license where we'll have to pay to upgrade soon? This is important information to know, especially because there seems to be no good export option and a proprietary database format.
AFAIK, this version is the same as a full paid license for AppShelf had you bought it from Kedisoft.

But where is AppShelf in my bundle 3, was it in a previous bundle ?
Why my query is erased and not answered ?
This would be more usefull to all !

Try the Support Desk forum and you'll do better! Maybe it was either moved their or someone hoped you'd get the idea. Mine is on my receipt. Don't go to a screenshot you took before the end of the sale, go to the homepage now and use the link to your oder there.

On the frontpage of MacHeist press the button "Order lookup"..
Then you get a list of all your bundle applications.
Scroll down to the bottom and you will find the application.

Is there any way to share AppList between multiple userids? After all the applications are shared between multiple userids. But all I can do is reregister Applist and reenter data for each userid.
Is there any documentation for AppList?
It doesn't appear to do much when I try to drag an application to it. It gets the date wrong, and has almost nothing else filled it. I don't know when I purchased the app, after all.

Really? I found it frustrating that it opened up a new window. I like being able to see everything at once.

So, I've been playing with the 1.5.x version of this app, and so far I like it a lot. I've been adding them into 1password up until now, but so far it's been much easier to add these into Appshelf and then import them into 1password via appshelf property lists. I really like the launch feature, which makes it even easier to register recently downloaded apps.
Some things that would be great to add:
- Ability to add 'blank' app licenses without pointing to a .app on the hard drive. There are a lot of licenses on CDs, the web, email that I'd like to catalog in AppShelf that I don't really want on my machine right now.
- Import from other file formats than AppShelf property list. This would a big plus. Ability to import licenses based on text parsing, or even to import copies of license e-mails would be great.

It shows you the icons for the apps you have installed and run as far as I can see. I have some missing, as I haven't run them (The Hit List for example).
This doesn't seem to be the case. I am missing icons for apps I have installed and run. Must be something else...
The applications have to be in the "Applications" folder and they can't be in any other sub-folders (unless they downloaded that way).

This application is not working right. It doesn´t show any icons of apps. It doesn´t even show the icon from the application (AppShelf) itself. When I add an application then it will show the icon. I don´t know what to do. Any recommendations?
forget what I said earlier. the new ui has grown on me.
I updated to the new version and now the app is suitable to manage my licenses. I like it better than 1password now for applications.
Congrats to the dev!

Has anyone figured out how to automatically install licenses from the Missions, nanoMissions, Tweetblast, Agent Aptitude Test? I'm guessing we have to do it all manually??

Yeah, we have to do it manually, they haven't provided an Appshelf file for the loot.

For those haven't loaded it lately Appshelf v1.6 is out. I don't know what's new or fixed as there's no "What's new this version?" info on Versiontracker.
I was a little concerned that it wouldn't be a valid update for the MacHeist version and my original downloaded file was called Appshelf-1.2mh, but having updated I'm still all registered.
I also see on the devs site that MUPromo bundle codes can also be downloaded into Appshelf.

Well something has to happen...either Appshelf needs to add the mail import feature that License Keeper has or License Keeper needs to be able to import these Appshelf files. Both features are invaluable to me.

Just to be clear it looks like it's not just this bundle's codes but anything you've bought through MU's promos. Just click the receipt links and there's an appshelf link there. Pretty damn awesome.
Now if Maczot could do that as well.
BTW, the appshelf developer needs to add in a feature to check for dupes. If you accidentally doubleclick the appshelf file more than the one time, appshelf just adds it in as another set of apps even if all of the info is the same as what was in there.

That is freakin' awesome. If other bundles like GiveGoodFood/MacBundleBox/etc. do this too then this could be AppShelf's answer to LicenseKeeper's killer email scanning feature.

Yep, it is a great feature. My MU Winter2008 bundle codes are now stored, as are the licences for individual applications I've bought from MU. I really hope this becomes a default practice.

I wouldn't go that far since I don't believe AppShelf can handle attachments like license files. It is "freakin' awesome regardless though. ![]()

I made a little useful hack.
My appshelf library is approaching 10 GB, so I decided it was time to stick it on an external drive. To accomplish this, I simply made a symbolic link in
/Library/Application Support/appshelfwhich pointed to my new library location. I haven't tested it on a network drive yet, but everything seems to be working perfectly on the usb drive.
EDIT: of course, unpredictable behavior may occur if your drive isn't plugged in and you fire up appshelf.
In communist russia, the normal force pushes on you!
10 GIGS? are you putting all your binarys in there?
When I started using AppShelf I only put the registration information stuff in with a copy, but the binaries only via link onto an external drive.... that saves my from to much headache

I just checked my libraries and found out that each entry in Appshelf uses 1,3 MB auf HD space. Is this really necessary and what is the intention behind this? Feels somewhat bloated to me...

Hello,
I tried to share my AppShelf-Folder form the Application Support Folder via dropbox. I moved the folder to my dropbox folder and made a symbolic link at the application support folder on both machines which should share the infos. Everything works fine and easy, but ... On my disk the whole folder is about 25MB ... Unfortunately on my dropbox account its about 1.2 GB! After searching around, I found out that dropbox resolves the normal aliases an copies the targets to the dropbox. Which means, that all installed apps which are referenced in my AppShelf File are being copied to my DropBox... I could do an export and share only the exported files, but in the export-files the attachments (like an registration file or something else) are not included.
So, does anybody has an idea how to share? Or do you have a better solution?
Thanx for your advice in advance
maclatz
The file provided for my MH3 keys was really handy, but I didn't see any way to get a similar file for MH2 and earlier. I noticed that the URL format for my other orders was different than the MH3 format, so I plugged in my MH2 order number into the same URL format, and I was pleased to find that I could then download an APpShelf file with all my MH2 apps and keys in it.
h t t p s://secure.macheist.com/order/mh3/{insert_your_MH2_order_id}/
The URL is messed up because of the forum's censoring of links in noob posts.
There weren't any icons, and I still had to enter the application names, but it was a lot easier than entering everything.
MacUpdate does this better than MacHeist, IMO. You can get a complete AppShelf file for each of your previous order with MacUpdate. MacHeist should do the same.
I must be doing something wrong as I can't get any of my downloads to import into appshelf. I have tried several different ways including the link on my receipt which is apparently broken. Anybody else out there working with Tiger? Most of these apps are for 10.5 or higher but the Times is supposed to work with 10.4. So far no success.
