I think we should all get socalite for free to make up for this. I'm sure this would count as a breach of contract or something.

Well you can get Eventbox for free, which Socialite used to be called.

maybe he just likes that app ?
i would vote for echofon XD (now that its out of beta and has adds in the free version
)
I don't like Echofon (where's my native look??) and Socialite (slooow thing). I want my Tweetie 2!
just to clarify, i want tweetie 2 ... too ![]()
but IF they don´t provide early acces and/or it goes free (specially if it has mandatory adds...), some compensation should be provided...
if thats the case, echofon is nice XD
Socialite is a lot more polished in its UI than the other Twitter apps IMHO. But then again I'm a sucker for a pretty face. The most unobtrusive of them all is still Twitterriffic, but come on.
I'm one of those that bought the bundle just for Tweetie 2 as well. And have bought Tweetie for Mac already, as well as Tweetie 1 and 2 for iPhone...GRRR!
It's pretty obvious that the dev knew this was coming when he consented to the Macheist deal, so it's a mystery what the motivation was. His deal would or wouldn't go through despite any Macheist bundles. I mean I hope I'm wrong. I hope that the beta to version 2 and our exclusive (not meaning one day before everyone else) access to it happens. And then I hope development on the app conintues despite who owns it or what its name becomes... and no ads if we're willing to pay for it.
But if we're right about it, then he just extended the middle finger to all of us for no real reason other than because he could. There would have been no reason at all for him to consent to the Macheist deal.
Im getting bored of waiting for Tweetie 2. I dont want to look like im throwing my toys out the pram because im not.
Tweetie is feeling really outdated now, with no list support, re-tweets not showing up in timelines & and no in-line support for tweetphoto (hate being redirect to a browser to view images upload by a BB)
I agree with mattmarchant. Tweetie doesn't just feel outdated.. it is. I actually really like itsy, although it's really buggy. Kiwi is also nice. Loren Brichter is a tool. If it was this close to the end of the month, he should have said "April or May." This kid is unreliable, it's a damn good thing Twitter acquired Tweetie for iPhone (and I hear for Mac, too) because it actually has a solid future now.

I think Loren may be more like one of those high school kids who puts enormous effort into making the best hamburger imaginable (although perhaps not on someone else's timeline), then makes a ton of money off it, and then gets an offer to make even more money as a high-level executive at McDonalds overseeing hamburger production. Or something like that.
That being said, I want my Tweetie 2.
As we bought the latest nanoBundle, MacHeist has to give us what we paid for. Even if Tweetie was free with the bundle (and we know it is not the case), we paid for the whole package and it is like a contract. We don't get the software ? So we should get our money back.
I know MacHeist is not responsible for the development of Tweetie, but they are responsible of what they sell. I think they should consider the situation seriously and should contact Loren and/or give us alternatives. It is a matter of credibility. Will you buy the next bundle if you know there is a chance you don't get the apps ?
probably not...
if you could check when i bought the bundle, you could see that i did it only after tweetie was already available. And it was mostly for the promise of the early beta of v2...
my god people, unforeseen circumstances happened. Get over it. There is ALWAYS a chance that the developer will be bought out or have to make the software unavailable for some reason. You did not pay for this, it was given as a freebie. If this happened with something like Rapidweaver then I might understand your position, but it is not like that at all. You wanted the beta that much, you should have just contacted Loren and asked to donate 20$ or whatever and have access to the beta and did not want to purchase the bundle.
Yes this is unfortunate. Yes people are upset. Those people should learn how to stop being angry about everything that does not go their way.

im not upset, im totally calm.
and i did pay for it, cause, as i said, i was not intrested in the bundle until... well... i was ![]()
and when i was, was cause i would get tweetie 2 early beta access and the full app afterwards.
if no beta access comes soon, i have the right to.. complain, but i don't feel like complaining this month ![]()
I don't think MH are obligated to do anything tbh. Though tweetie 2 beta access was offered, I was under the impression that this was a bonus. What we were paying for was the tweetie 1 license. The beta access was nothing more than advertising for atebits. Loren still gets the money, and tweetie 2 gets a nice user base. I don't think there's any legal standing in this.
That being said, I'm sure that the directorate aren't happy about the situation, and I think it sucks that Loren went into this bundle with the knowledge that this might happen. Actually, I'm more offended by the lack of communication from him really. I guess that Twitter do have some control over what he's saying, but I feel that he owes it to us to at least give us an adequate explanation, and a realistic timescale.
I do want tweetie 2, but other than that, I have little respect for Loren now for selling out and leaving his users high and dry. It’s a good thing that he now works for Twitter, cos I certainly would not be interested in supporting him as an indie dev after this.

Just because Tweetie was bought by Twitter that's no reason for Loren (or Twitter, or whoever's in charge now) not to honor the commitments he made before that. When you buy a corp, it comes with any debts it might have.

But you realize that if Tweetie hadn't been bought ("selling out") you wouldn't have come in a situation where you needed to declare your un-supporting him?
And now that Loren IS with Twitter ("has sold out"), he basically is supported objectively, does not rely on support from individuals anymore, even CANNOT be supported anymore by individuals (which is always the downside of "selling out").

Whether or not you feel like we have a right to get upset at the (assumed; 4 days left) broken promise, there is absolutely NO denying that we have the right to be upset at the lack of information from MacHeist and/or Loren/Twitter. It's pretty unnerving that an organization with such supposed "esteem" as MacHeist would leave thousands and thousands of its customers hanging by a thread. This will undoubtedly, and at the very least, cause some buyers to hesitate before deciding whether or not to become a repeat buyer.

Quite right. MacHeist really doesn't have any power over the codebase or when it'll be ready.

btw what's with the quotes around "selling out"? I'm not suggesting that he sucks simply for taking a job at twitter - it’s the fact that he did it with no concern for his user base. I don't have a problem with big corporations at all - I just don't like the fact that he's shafted his users for some cash.

But they do have control on updates. If they have no updates, then they should- at the very least- tell us that they have not been given any updates from Loren despite requests for updates. They conveyed to us that we would have the private beta this month, and it's probably not going to happen. We're still hanging, and someone has to own up- or at least tell us something, even if it's that they have no updates. They NEED to acknowledge the fact that we should have gotten it, and inform us of what they are doing about it.
That's just common sense- I would never let any of my clients hang on something, even if it's out of my control.

How does MacHeist have control over updates? I don't see your logic there. The licenses sold in Macheist bundles are as if the app was bought directly from the developer. That means that support for apps still go to the developers. MacHeist is just a 3rd party helping to market and sell apps, but the developers are still responsible for support and providing updates to users. So Loren needs to post some update on their site, or post something here in the forums. If MH gets involved, that's great, but I don't feel it's their responsibility, because again, it's as if buying the apps from the developers. You paid MH for apps, not an update service. It's the developers responsibility.
I have chosen to forget about Tweetie until something finally does happen. I think the biggest mistake was adding the free version 2 update. I think when a developer offers a free upgrade, the motivation to develop it goes down because they know they won't get upgrade sales from it. It took AppZapper 2 forever to come around, and the Cha-Ching developers have disappeared before their free v2 update was ever finished.

MacHeist has control over what they tell their customers, and if they CONVEY a promise, they should update us on it. There is no denying that MacHeist facilitates the purchase, and we deal with them. In essence, they are the interface here.
I have also chosen to forget about Tweetie, and exactly because of the reasons you stated (motivation, et cetera).

When did it become the job of MacHeist to speak on behalf of the developer? There's no news from the developer and you expect the directorate to know more than us, which is fine. But you want a status even if they don't know anything it sounds like.

No, I don't want made up news. That should be obvious. MacHeist sold the bundles, you can't overlook that. We deal with MacHeist, no one else. I find it hard to believe MacHeist has no information, or that they can't at least ask and tell us the response.

to some degree, I agree with him. I find it hard to believe that there's been no information. Even if it's something small like "Ah, sorry. Due to *such and such a bug* I will have to push the development back a week or so.". Even something like that. We're not dealing with Loren here; we're dealing with MacHeist. That's who we purchased it from.

Look back through the forums and you will see that many users had low expectation from the start of it, due to Loren's preexisting reputation for delays.

Duly noted; thank you. I still think that MH should say something at least. Can they contact him? If so, what does he say? I mean, if I were MH, I would be thinking "Gee, we have helped this guy gain even more exposure, and we're treated like this?"
It's in MH's best interest to say what they know, or find out something and then say it.

Oh, but you are, one way or the other. The fact of the matter is that we (and I say "we" as MacHeist as a collective) don't have any control over the code process and I'd also be willing to bet that Loren would be rather difficult to get ahold of at this point in time.
Also, the last we heard from Loren or MH Directorate, the word was that Tweetie 2 will be delivered. No news kind of implies that the situation hasn't yet changed.

True, but there's another element at play here called time (no trying to be a smart ass, I promise). Earlier in the month, when people complained, I stayed low. But now that it's getting toward the end of the month, I can't help but wonder why no information has been given to us, and whether or not the bundle will come with everything it's supposed to.
This will be my last "complaint," as I wanted to get my opinion out there because it should be valuable to MacHeist.
Cheers.

I seriously doubt that the MH Directorate are privy to any insider information about this app. Loren has never been the type of dev to clue people in about what he is working on. If you must have some resolution in the meantime, sign the petition.

In case this never materializes can anyone recommend a suitable alternative? I've tried socialite but as I follow quite a few people the fact you have to click each new tweet in order to mark it as read gets quite tiresome. Also Its not free and I really don't want to pay for another twitter app.
I've heard good things about Kiwi but never tried it (and again its not free) Nambu is coming along, mac native and costs naught but a download but its still not quite ready for prime time. The interface in particular still needs work. Then there are all the air apps but not a one of them feels like the belong on the mac.
Any other alternatives?

Echofon, Twitt, Twitterrific (which you got for free in November), Beak, and Bluebird. All are free with Echofon being ad-supported. They're quite full featured, at a great price.

No, it's just a slotmachine when you scroll a little bit more up than you must do to reload.

That seems like a joke. Why spend time on that? We're already overdue for the Tweetie 2 beta, and he spends time making a pointless slot machine. Trying to get some sales from people wanting to see the "surprise" before it goes free? Some reviews seemed to indicate that some people fell victim to that. Tweetie being boughten by Twitter isn't even mentioned in the app description.
