★ Tweetie (Including Tweetie 2 Beta Access!)
Is there any likelihood at all of getting the Tweetie 2 access?
To be honest, the _only_ reason I purchased the Macheist bundle was because I saw the Tweetie 2 beta access and I had enjoyed but been dissatisfied with the release cycle of Tweetie on OSX.
This whole thing has left me pretty annoyed and pushed me away from both Atebit's tools and likely any future support for MacHeist. There's still some good tools, like Macjournal has been useful, but quite literally, my goal in purchasing this package was Tweetie 2, and both as a customer and fellow developer/designer, I'm not too impressed.

I think it would be great to offer a partial refund for not delivering Tweetie OR a complete refund for the entire bundle... Only problem, what to do with those who bought the bundle before the Tweetie announcement? Will they be refunded? This whole affair holds quite serious implications for the way in which a large number of people will look at bundle sales in the future (especially those that involve a lot of promises and extras whose status as "part of the bundle" is uncertain, e.g. does somebody who buys the bundle before an announcement have the same rights as someone who bought it afterwards)...

I believe this has been discussed before and it is nearly impossible to offer a refund, as this would require the return of licenses for software that people would like to continue using.

I for one, don't expect a refund (this time) as relatively administration fees would be larger than the sum itself.
I do, however expect proper, open communication from the Directorate describing what they have been doing about all this and how it will be handled from their end.

Yeah, I'm not too sure what Mike's issue was. Boboboe took care of it and I just stressed the fact that the thread will stay open for discussion. I don't necessarily agree with those who feel they got cheated but discussion is necessary.
To be honest, don't take any word from the "Staff" as official either when it comes to Tweetie. Word will come from Phill or John. Staff may answer questions but I don't think they should be posting that response that Mike did unless it was personal opinion - hard to tell in this case and I always disclose that in my posts - and I really don't like that he closed the thread without consulting with the mods that are actually involved in the day-to-day.
That being said...

@VelvetRose, did any post get deleted? I don't think so at least… I was just a bit pissed that the thread got closed. All this time the core of my argument has been that the silent treatment is the worst possible choice for MacHeist.

Only problem is that is a dumb idea. You DID get Tweetie, and you are still entitled to Tweetie 2 beta access when it becomes available. Furthermore, Loren has already said that all Tweetie license holders will get a free update to Tweetie 2, so you will be getting that, too.
Apparently what you do not and will not get is the fact that these programs are not just oozed right out but must in fact be written by someone. In this case, the someone is almost certainly working on several projects and has bosses to make happy. People are also waiting for Twitter for iPad, and it would not surprise me if that were a higher priority for Twitter and Loren than a beta for a Mac app.

@Warbrain - I'm a bit amazed John and/or Phil haven't said anything proper regarding all of this. MacHeist is originally their undertaking isn't it? Their reputation is taking hits for what? Nothing worth losing even part of it for at least. My earlier impressions of them makes this Tweetie-issue rather unreal in the first place... Which is why I haven't really bothered before because I was expecting them to take charge any day now and not letting it get out of hand like this.
@NiklasBR, yes, my post containing my reply to Miah and I think at least one of yours were silently removed. That one about the use of modern day means for communication alleviating any lack of time issues one might have.
Silent treatment is the worst choice in any situation when dealing with damage control. Anyone having studied business communications knows this (aside from any sensible mind able to see two steps ahead).
For heavens sake... Loren/atebits develops a product for anyone to easily issue updates on progress but then doesn't use it themselves for that one important thing?

My primary issue was in the incentive to purchase the Macheist bundle. Tweetie by the time I started using it was good software, but not reflective of the service it supposedly supported. What I was paying for, literally, was the early beta access. I wanted something with the design of Tweetie, but which provided the services which Twitter now includes. In consequence, the Tweetie 1 license is utterly useless to me: it was not the incentive for purchase. I infact use Nambu now.
I don't expect my money back. I think it should be returned, but more broadly my hope is that a) Tweetie 2 is released soon, or at least FIRM release dates WITH something in apology to the community that has spent money on it already and b) for Macheist to act in some way to regain some consumer trust. You guys are like a concert hall which failed to bring on a key band: maybe not everyone came to see that particular act, but a bunch of us did and the onus is on you to appease us before we storm the stage and start breaking things (figuratively, of course).

Best part is Tweetie 1 will fail to function any longer in about 20 days when the OAUTH changes kick in...chew on that for awhile and see if you feel better about what you bought.
Loren is about as customer friendly as David Wantanabe and honestly, if anything comes out of this, I certainly hope MacHeist has learned that it needs to do a much better job of screening possible software for their bundles and maybe read a few dummies books on PR.

That macstories article seems to be nothing more than a rehashing of the Ars story. Nothing new in it, although it does seem to be a bit more skeptical about whether Tweetie 2 will be seen any time soon.
One thing I do like though, is that any story I've seen about Tweetie 2 seems to make reference to the beta availability for MacHeist users.

I've read the article, but even in the article Loren said he hopes to be back to working some on Tweetie for Mac "in a few weeks". A few weeks is the deadline for OAUTH...so considering his priority right now is Tweetie for iPhone OAUTH compatibility and the iPad version, I can pretty much guarantee Tweetie 1 will stop functioning end of this month unless something amazing happens.
And honestly, given all of Loren's other promises, I'm not holding out much hope.

It's been stated that Tweetie for Mac will be updated before the OAuth switch, and today the OAuth switch has been postponed.
And Tweetie2 has been confirmed to still be under development.
Why is anyone complaining at all?

People complain as a means of conveying their message of disappointment and dissatisfaction at how this is being dealt with. They also complain because they have a right to.

Brichter said that UIKit was already influencing the design of Mac OS X apps, and revealed that he was busy writing his own desktop implementation of UIKit to help build the long-anticipated Tweetie for Mac 2. "I'll open it up [to other developers] if the code isn't too embarrassing," he said.
(Brichter also let slip that Tweetie for Mac 2 will in fact be renamed Twitter for Mac, just like the iPhone version, and will also be free.)

Twitter will make API changes on August 16th that break old versions of Tweetie for Mac. This update keeps the tweets flowing. Other updates:
- Increased security around your account.
- Disable posting to image hosts using the deprecated authentication method.
- Registration no longer needed. Section removed.
- In accordance with the Twitter Terms of Service, on July 1st Fusion Ads will no longer be displayed.
- Tweets no longer say they're from "Twitter for iPhone," but instead "Tweetie for Mac."
- An option in "advanced" to update your iChat status when you tweet.
- Improved Magic Mouse support.
