I'm using Socialite now, thanks to MacHeist and Taptaptap. Nice app.

Also Kiwi (from Your head software) is a really nice alternative to Tweetie.

How do you think those of us feel who not only paid twice for the iPhone version but also the Mac client version? Loren is not on my Xmas list, as they say.

I think it was a whopping $6 for *both* iphone releases of Tweetie.  How will people who can somehow afford iphones and ipod touches ever financially recover from that?

Imagine a whole company where everyone owns an iDevice and they bought WolframAlpha when it was still $50?

Companies typically make business decisions and buy things based on their value to the company.  If a company bought Wolfram Alpha for $50 for everyone with an iDevice, they must have felt it was worth that cost and a smart business decision.  It might be worth more to them now but it shouldn't take away from the value they felt it had then.

For something like Tweetie it would be about value to the user.  Can you seriously make an argument that the software wasn't worth $3?!?!  Of course if it's never used after purchase one could argue that but then that person should be upset with themselves for getting it then in the first place.  The developer didn't force them to buy it.

Frankly the whole thing is dumb...people get upset if the price goes down and they certainly get upset if the price goes up.  Move on people...the rest of the world is.

I've used Tweetie, Twitteriffic, Kiwi, Echofon, Socialite, TweetDeck, and DestroyTwitter.

DestroyTwitter is my favorite so far. It is easy to use and the ability to use multiple filters allows me to continue following people without having to read their tweets unless I want to do so.

So I still haven't found *one* client for me.  I'm really stuck on Tweetie's interface - it really does an excellent job of being attractive and slim yet feature packed. I want to like Kiwi since it has some nice themes but the window/container part is kinda bulky.  Socialite is nice but I prefer a slimmer client I guess.  I dislike air so I avoid apps that just it. I have all the ones mentioned installed so I'll see what I gravitate to as Tweetie gets creaky, but for now Tweetie is still my go to Twitter app.

It's pretty audacious that Loren hasn't even bothered to update Atebits' site to reflect the fact that Tweetie for Mac isn't actively developed anymore. I guess we can now say that Tweetie is the Disco of Mac Twitter apps. It'll be a snowball's chance in Hell that I'll ever trust him or his products again.

Wasn't the Tweetie 2 beta update part of the bundle we purchased?

It's extremely lame and pathetic on the developer's part to reneg on that promise and at the same time makes MH look stupid by passing that promise on to the customers. And they're innocent in the mess Tweetie's developer has created.

The developer is obviously a sell out. After selling Tweetie for iPhone to Twitter, it was all over for the mac client. Even after making a promise that "big things" are coming for the mac client.

Bah! What an asshole!

I preach to the choir because I can and I know (read: hope) I'll receive copious amount of "right on", "so true!", "^this" and various other 'in agreement' responses.

That, plus a couple bucks, will get you a nice cup of coffee at this place near my office. Locally roasted!

At any rate, about the best thing we can hope for at this point is leveraging the community to locate a suitable replacement. Crying over spilt milk has run its course.

Tweetie happened to have a unique UI where I'm concerned - strays from conventions in a few key ways, but doesn't make me want to gouge out my eyeballs. I for one am on the hunt for a client that is:

- NATIVE (read: No Air)
- Elegant (Should look like it belongs on a Mac, or look damn good where it differs)
- Up-to-Date (full API support, like lists and native re-tweet)
- Multiple account support
- Reasonably priced

I am also looking for a new Twitter client with those above-mentioned features. I found Echofon to be quite good, but it seriously ugly. My problem is that Tweetie had one hell of a good looking and unique interface for a twitter stream and it is difficult to find another app that achieves something similar. Echofon is too bland for my tastes although it is quite powerful and well made. I am somewhat open to Air variants, as long as they surpass the other requirements, i'll put up with it.

If you happen to stumble upon a Tweetie replacement mate, please let me know.

I think it is just sad. When he made the MacHeist deal Loren Brichter must have known that he would sell to Twitter. And he probably also knew what would happen to Tweetie for Mac (and Tweetie 2) then. Given the facts now, advertising the "upcoming" beta version the way he did and building up hope for a better Tweetie was just wrong. And it tells a lot about this person. He probably has a safe job with Twitter now and does not have to care about the people who supported him by buying his software. The only decent thing for him to do would be to give back the money. Of course he is not going to do that.

What does this mean for MacHeist? This not the first major application that was marketed as a huge bargain in MacHeist and turned out as hot air. I am not surprised there has not been a MacHeist 4 this year.

Or any of his products for that matter. They all still look the same, except the store has been disabled for all of them.

DreadedKilla wrote:

Except that it is not mentioned anywhere on his site or Twitter. It still shows it is $20, only you can't buy it. If you download it, you'd find that there is no registration required, but only those who download and try it will discover that.

EDIT: If MH4 was waiting for Tweetie 2 to be delivered, you might as well make a general announcement/apology and move on with the next bundle big_smile
