I'm loving "The Heist" and now all my family are playing with it but I had a bit of a surreal moment yesterday.  I will say I was very tired.

Just as I finished a level I got a call from "UnKnown", I was unsure whether I was still in the game or whether in was a real call it went something like this:-

<iPhone Rings>

I Answer buy say nothing (not really sure whether I'm still in the game)

<silence>

I say "Hello"

<Strong accent voice starts talking, but it's fairly quiet and my room is noisy>

Cool I think, the app has some sort of voice activated trigger, damn these guys are good.  Shame I didn't catch what was being said, so I wait hoping it'll repeat.

<Silence>

I say "Hello" again

<Strong accent voice says something, not the same as before but I'm concentrating now and can make out that it's an asian accent, not the eastern European lilt I would have expected.  Perhaps where going truly global with this heist. Cool!

<Strong Asian voice man said something about something happing in my area?>

Strange?  Doesn't sound very "Heist-like', but it's definitely an automated, recorded voice call with what seems to be a voice activated trigger.

<Strong Asian voice says "Press any key to speak to our agent" (or something like that).

Not sure which world I'm in...  I Press a key...

<Ringing... >

<Ringing... >

<A man in a clear voice started to explain how I can save money on my Sky Satellite TV subscription>

<CLICK>  I hang up.

Did I just spend a few minutes hold on for a cold call???  Yes.
Did I feel like an idiot?  Absolutely.

Still, it amused my family that I would hold on to a cold call thinking I was playing a game, so I thought I'd share.

Mark.

This is why I'm very surprised Apple approved the app. They have been very strict in the past about not replicating native features because it can cause user confusion, and although those rules have been relaxed a bit, the way The Heist mimics an incoming call could, and I this case apparently did, lead to confusion.

Not to mention the copyright issues with using the phone interface widgets etc.

Would be interesting to hear how they pulled it off.

Well I enjoyed the initial experience, I thought it was very clever and well done.   I'm also surprised it was allowed, but have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  My son wasn't fooled as he doesn't use the normal ringtone on his iPhone.

Except in my case, because I am playing the app on my iPod Touch 4th Gen.
If it started answering calls for real, I'd be more than a little confused.

If I am receiving calls and facetime on my iPad gen1, Apple and AT&T have some explaining to do.

Not a bad one to have. Classics was nice enough to entice Apple into eating your lunch...
