My iPhone 3G is over 2 years old now and has been running fine, currently on iOS 4.2.1 (8C148)
Now, in it's wisdom, the BBC has decided that it will no-longer support iOS devices that have a version less than 4.3 for the iPlayer mobile site.
That's bugged me as most of my iPlayer watching was done on my phone and now I can't catch up all that telly I missed.
So... I did a bit of reading on jailbreaking, wondering if it might be the solution to my problems.
I am wondering if my iPhone 3G can be modified so that when the BBC site checks the phone, it sees a version of iOS 4.3 (or more)
It looks so far that a lot of the jailbreak solutions that work on the iPhone 3G are just facelifts of iOS 3.x to look like and give features of iOS 4.x but that won't wash with the software check from the BBC.
So, can I actually put firmware on the iPhone 3G that will give it either iOS 4.3 or at the very least, make it look like 4.3 so I can watch BBC iPlayer on my iPhone again.
Of course, it would be really nice if I could get the phone to be able to run apps that require 4.3 or above too, things like game centre and iPlayer app plus many others that I have but can't use because of the version.
It seems a little over the top to upgrade my phone just to be able to watch iPlayer again so wondered if there were another way.
Thanks in advance for any help!
