I meant for ToodleDo.  Will ToDo do it?  I dunno, let me download the trial and OH WAIT... (they claim it will, but I have to spend $30 to find out)

I could just use the web interface but it's horribly ugly and inefficient.

It will sync with Toodledo...but I've actually dished out the money for the online syncing, and it works great. I've paid for the iPhone/iPod Touch app as well as the iPad app (sucks a little to have to pay for both), but I am so satisfied with both the syncing and how well Todo works for me that I didn't mind too much. And Todo online saves me from having to purchase the desktop app. I can enter anything online and it'll sync to all my devices.

Wow, didn't know that it synced to Toodledo. Goodbye money, I knew you well.

By the way, can someone who received the release email post it on the forum or pm it to me please?  I opted out of all communications, and didn't get it.

I've found that the syncing to Toodledo is not great and the app continuously reports to me on tasks I completed over the weekend and shouldn't be pushing alerts.

Same feeling here… 20$ is too much for the web service (not the syncing service…). It is plain point greedy.

I have moved and purchased Omnifocus! smile

I left hit list, got omnifocus, then after spending quite a time 'managing' omnifocus, got Things....

Things is good.

Simple as that.

Cross-platform is a must for me (iOS, Mac, Windows) and so far Toodledo is the only thing that works out well.

Aha, looks like Appigo released a trial version on their site!  Great!  I am trying it out now.  It's not bad, I wish it had the keyboard shortcuts of THL but the sync to Toodledo might offset all of that.

Now that THL is out of beta I'd really like to start using it. Except it has got to be the most expensive list app on the market. I've been using Wunderlist and it great not only free but it syncs for free. Sorry I'm just not going to pay for another sync service subscription. I have dropbox for syncing. One feature I miss on Wunderlist is repeating tasks. I hear that coming though.

Most expensive? Take a look at OmniFocus and all its iOS counterparts.

Take a look at the subscription costs. Over time it is more expensive than Omnifocus.

Or sync for free with Omnifocus. And I am pretty sure all other providers of similar software will offer syncing via iCloud in the future.

Well, iCloud remains to be proven as a true alternative. Keep in mind, apps COULD in theory already be offering free sync over MobileMe, but guess what? It sucks.

Perhaps Apple is doubling-down here. They do seem to be lauding their infrastructure and making it free doesn't hurt. Still, we have yet a while to wait and see if iCloud pans out. Having bet on .Mac and MobileMe, excuse me but I'll check this round.

Edit: Wow, too many betting analogies.

I just can't visualize a practical use of two distinct copies of your to do list.  Does anyone have enough spare organizing time to do double entry/double maintenance on two lists?  To me it would be better to have a printed copy than a potentially out-of-sync mobile version.

The point I was making was that you can have only a Mac app or an iOS app and still use it to pretty much its full potential without the counterpart. OmniFocus emphasizes this app-independence on first run on its iOS apps.

Let's resurrect the to-do list discussion a bit...

I  think Reminders is enough for me to switch away from Toodledo. I can use Outlook, my work Blackberry, and Reminders for home/work and be happy. No subtasks but I can code things as necessary.

I think I still want something more complex.  I tested out ToDo on the Mac, and it's not bad.  At first I was disappointed you couldn't use more than one context for a task but I realized maybe I'm looking at that wrong.

I think Things is still most likely in my future.  I really miss iGTD.

I have considered it, more than once.  But it's very expensive.

But well worth it if you can make use of it. I literally have hundreds of items, and nothing else does quite as good a job at organizing them...

I am giving both Things and OF a trial right now.  Neither seems to have a quick way to create a task from a mail message, other than dragging to the quick entry window.  I may have to create a script for this much like I did for THL.

Is there a "Next Actions" view in OF somewhere?  Or how about tags?  I don't see it.  I liked how I could create a smart list in THL to bring up tasks I had tagged as "easy" so I could make stuff happen when I had only a few minutes.

@JMarkevich For Things, they have a service that allows you to send your selected text into the app.

Ok, I see it now. That's one more step than I was hoping for, and I see OF has the same thing... I want the link to the message and maybe the sender + subject line. I like to multiselect messages and hit a Mail Act-On key to make it happen.  The faster I can clear out my inbox the better.

I don't think Things can handle more than one message at a time, but this would probably help speed it up.

I converted my THL script to insert a task into OmniFocus, and it works fine.  I could probably tweak it to work with Things too, easily enough.  (When I say "my" script, 95% of it is swiped from someone else, I just modified it for my use)

Sadly I think OmniFocus is the only way to go.  Sad for my wallet and the other competitors...  Once I discovered how perspectives worked I realized that was the key.

Well, I think I'm done with Reminders. They're nice but not great. Location reminders could be useful but I know what time I'm usually where and can just set an alarm. Maybe if I had Siri I would use it more.

I've absolutely fallen in love with the Dropbox sync in ToDo but not having any Windows-side way to access that data is frustrating.

I don't use it, but what does the Todo content look like as "raw data" in Dropbox? For example, I can go to Dropbox and view the contents of my 1Password database as a web page (complete security intact).

It's a basic file that will not open with any text editors. Doesn't appear to be CSV or TSV.
