I can't connect to the cloud. I've emailed support, but I thought I'd ask here as well. Does anyone know how I can connect? I searched for egg as an ingredient and no results appeared from the cloud.

Our idiocy knows no bounds.

Unfortunately a disappointment for me as well.

* Trying to import a recipe from a web page causes it to freeze with full CPU utilization. Sure I could strip all formatting data first and then try, but I shouldn't have to since that's not how it's advertised.

* Doesn't automatically save often enough and does not provide any option to save manually, so if it crashes any and all changes are lost.

* Creating grocery list works terribly bad. It doesn't even understand that "carrot" and "carrots" is the same ingredient. Ingredients are also badly detected. For example, "pine nuts" is shown as "nuts" in the grocery list. Metric ingredient amounts are shown using scientific notation, such as 2.8e+02 for "280 g" (yes, gram/g has been added to Preferences -> Units).

There are only 46 recipes. I thought there were supposed to be over 12,000. That is one of the reasons I got the bundle. Am I doing something wrong?

I emailed Acacia support this morning after I could not search the "cloud" and I only had 49 recipes to choose from in the local database. I did enter the serial and I can mark recipes that I've imported to be shared.

I'm pretty disappointed but maybe Acacia will get all these issues sorted out within the next few days.

So aside from all the problems, has anyone had any success getting the advertised number of recipes to appear and is anyone able to search for items from the "cloud"? If you do have any success with this app could you please help?

Our idiocy knows no bounds.

When I search, it takes a while to search the cloud, but it does search it.  You may need to give it a minute or so to get to the cloud. 

I definitely see a great future with this app!

It's rather slow though and I would like to see build-in recipes already. The online recipes need "proofing" or at least some sort of guideline to keep quality at an even level. Some people have submitted their recipe 2 or 3 times...


There is nothing better than crepes, ice cream and manju with hot thick green tea...

I agree..  As I said, I look forward to the future updates for this app.  Since this is very early in its stages (only at 1.1 right now), it can only get better.

This software is cr.p !
There is no way to access the cloud and no way to contact anyone who may help, I reinstalled twice and still have the same problem. I am stuck with 47 recipe instead of 40000!
Does anyone knows how to ask for a refund on a software bought in a bundle?

April 10th, no serial - at least, it doesn't show up in the email I received.

Is that where we're supposed to be able to see it once this is working again?

I would expect some type of notice from either MacHeist or Acacia Tree... I've emailed AT.

Ok - FWIW -

I emailed Acacia Tree at "8:22 PM" according to the board.. anyway, about an hour ago, I received the registration code!

No problem for me.

It works ok for me now. I am finally able to search the cloud. Only trouble is that as soon as you change one letter in the list of ingredient, you have to wait 30 seconds because whatever you change the software seach immediately. We need a button to access the cloud when we have finished writing the list of ingredients. If you want something with pineapple inside you have to wait almost 3 minutes to actually write pineapple... This is not convenient.

I copied SousChef to Applications and ran it. I get no recipes at all. If I click Preferences, nothing happens - no window. If I click Help/Licensor, nothing happens - no window. The thing is dead on the vine.

I'm running Leopard (10.5.6) on a Macbook 13". I've rebooted, I've reinstalled, no changes.

Make sure you guys are doing the copy and paste dance to enter your license.  Those invisible blank spaces can be killers wink 

There is also a very good Knowledge Base at their site here that will answer most common questions that are being asked here. 

Be patient and give them a chance...we just hammered them with several thousand new customers so hang in there and give them a chance to take care of you.

Recipes aren't stored as separate files, but rather in a binary database file, so I am very surprised your virus scanner found anything at all.  Also we don't support linking out of SousChef to web pages, etc.so I'm not sure how a phishing scam would work with SousChef hosted recipes, can you tell us a little more about the scam?

We've had this happen for a very few customers.  Obviously we'd like to figure out why this is happening and get it worked through and fixed.  Can you submit a copy of the log output from Console.app and any applicable screenshots, etc. to bugs at acaciatreesoftware dot com?

@blachman  Thanks for your presence in this thread.  It helps to have devs working with us on some of the crazy issues that crop up.

Just an FYI, I sent an email to sonicray to find out what app he was using that supposedly detected the virus and phishing scam.  I haven't had a response yet, but will post if and when I do.

Failing that, send an email to directorate08@macheist.com with the name on the order, and the order number, if you have it and it'll be taken care of.

I have been otherwise occupied and just now got to installing the software I bought through MacHeist3, one of which was SousChef. The program downloaded and installed just fine and I received the e-mail with all of my MacHeist serial numbers, including SousChef. However, when I enter it into the licensor box, all I get is an orange triangle with an exclamation point in the middle - but no explanation.

I have entered it by cut-and-paste and manually, multiple times. Each time, I carefully checked that what was in the box was the same as the S/N in the e-mail I received. And each time - same result - orange triangle, no license accepted message.

Now what? Thanks.

This sounds to me like an improperly generated license, and the staff will make a point to help you out on this one.

Make sure to contain in the email your purchase number and/or name you bought the bundle under.

Hi, I'm getting an error: "Invalid file name.".  It used to bring up the application. I then was prompted to updated, initiated the update, upon restart received the above error again, and then the application quit.  Any suggestions, I'm excited to use this software!

The version I have is SousChef v1.1  which supposedly does work with OS 10.4.11 since it only requires 10.4.9 so what is the problem?

Here is an answer to my question and all with OS 10.4.11:
Go to the Acacia Tree website  which is "acaciatreesoftwareDOTcom" then type in"/support.php?id=45#article" to download a version that WILL work with Tiger.  I can't post a link but this will get you there.  If you don't want to type all this, go to their main page, select support, then select the question asking about "Tiger."

Hi,

I never received a serial number for this app.  I got an email saying there servers didn't hold up too well and I would be sent one shortly.  That never happened.  Do you know where I can get one?

Hi

My License Code isn't working. I just have the little yellow yield sign after I enter it. There are no extra spaces before or after. The serial is super crazy too, unlike a lot of the others, but maybe that means nothing.

After pasting I did not see anything, but pressing the button shows in, but still did not work...
I went to the end of the line, and pressed fn and back space, then tried, worked.

I understand this might be bumping up an old thread but it seemed like the only place to post this. I am having an odd issue with SousChef, I have the license recognized but whenever I search, no more than 10 search results show up (in the Cloud). No matter what I search, it's always just 10 results even if it is something as broad a search as egg as the ingredient type. Anyone know how to fix this?!?!?

Maybe  you should ask your question in the App's section of the forums. Scrolling down you may find a thread about SousChef.

I rarely use SousChef, still too buggy. I've never been able to search in the cloud. So be happy with your ten results ;-)
