Hello,

Anyone has tried Mountain Lion on his machine. I've tried to install it on my Mac Pro end 2006 but it doesn't want to install on this machine. I have a MacBook Air 2010 but I don't know how it can work on it. This machine is supposed to be less powerful than my Mac Pro even if one is older than the other. Am I correct ?

Works fine on a 2011 MacBook Air. It doesn't run much differently from Lion, aside from 3rd party app stability issues.

It's pretty stable. I'm enjoying it so far.

That would be the last app I'd try.

Eric

Thank you for the URL. I have two questions concerning this howto.

1) It contains a patched version of EFI32.pkg. Is it safe for the machine on which I'm installing this ? I would have a PC, I wouldn't touch to the BIOS. From what I've read, EFI is the same for Mac hardware, is it correct ?

2) I can't restore the image disk on a USB key. There seem to be some problem with the dmg file. It fails when I try to analyze it. Is it because the image disk is writable or because the size has changed with EFI32.pkg ?

I've already installed Mountain Lion on my Macbook Air 2010 and it works fine, so I would like to do it on my Mac Pro, but I want to be sure before smile

How is performance vs. lion / snow leopard?  I noticed a small (<5%) dip in speed in lion vs. snow leopard.  This is the first mac OS I've used that actually decreased performance (however slight).  I am curious if there is a performance difference.

Considering I never saw a drop in speed between Lion and Snow Leopard I'm not sure what the issue could be.

Sparrow works swimmingly with Mountain Lion now. The new Mail is a big step up from the design of Mail in Lion, but still not my cup of tea.

Mountain Lion requires an advanced GPU chipset so certain Mac's will not be able to run ML even if they run Lion... but of course there are some work arounds as you are finding out.

If you look at this Apple webpage, you'll see Mac Pro computers manufactured before 2008 aren't supported.

In fact there is this, even if I'm not sure that it stills works with the last preview :

I have Mountain Lion (10.8.1) loaded on my Late 2007 MacBook Pro.  It just so happens that my machine I have it loaded on is the oldest machine that Apple officially supports for Mountain Lion.

I don't use that machine as much as my current Machine (late 2011 MacBook Pro) but it seems to run everything I've tried.  I know that http://www.roaringapps.com has a list of apps and what others have said about how they are working under Mountain Lion, perhaps that list can help you out a bit.

I'd wait til 10.8.2 is released. Should be within the month. Fixes all the battery life issues and bugs with Mountain Lion in first release and 8.1

For all of your portable users - how has your battery life fared so far after your upgrade to Mountain Lion? I'm looking forward to upgrading my 2011 MacBook Air, but I haven't heard anything conclusive yet about a fix being issued.

Also, what about WiFi? My mom's Mac mini is suffering from the notorious Lion WiFi issues, and I'm hoping that Mountain Lion might help fix that once and for all.

The biggest reason I would swap is the AirPlay streaming but my laptop is too old to support that feature so I think I will just stick with Lion till I upgrade soon.

Mountain Lion is better than Lion in pretty much every way I can think of. Supposedly there was a battery drain issue in 10.8.0 and 10.8.1 but it did not have a big effect on my mid-2011 MacBook Air.

Battery seems fine on my 2010(?) Macbook 13" White.  Although Safari is ridiculously unstable (new tab has a 50/50 chance of crashing the browser).

Signatures confuse me.  I can never work out what to put there.

Still not as polished as snow leopard, but I think ML is my favorite OS ever, largely because of documents in iCloud.

I'm on the fence about upgrading.  I'm on an early 2008 MPB, so I could run it.  I'm not a fan of some of the tweaks that iOS-ify some of the interface, but I know they can be undone.  I can't use features like Airplay.  I also haven't heard for sure if Rosetta Stone and a couple other big apps I use are 100% supported.  Haven't been happy with Apple for the last half year or so.  They nerfed FCP, and they're taking the overall UI of OSX in a direction I'm not entirely fond of.  This is the first year I haven't been jumping up and down to upgrade my tech.

So far, Mountain Lion is working pretty well for me. I haven't had any non-functioning apps that I'd consider a deal breaker, though I did thin down my app collection a ton beforehand.

And now that I think about it, I think I am running into some Wifi problems. Good to know they're just because of ML, and not my aging MBP. It's a little annoying, but it's only that my computer doesn't auto-connect to my network after waking from sleep.

I'm still on Snow Leopard, but that is because I have sucky internet connection and now have to seek out an apple store. tongue I'm going to upgrade very soon.

I personally hate rosetta stone apps, so I would be fine losing it if it comes to that. Only problem is I won't know if it is ML or my modem for the crappy wifi after upgrading. LOL

Wait a minute... I can complain...

Why can't MacHeist magically make my comp have ML? Or they could at least provide me with a stable modem and internet connection that is fast. I mean really... How. Dare. They. wink

Of course I'm a mermaid... what did you think? roll

If I had a DVD drive I would just burn you an install disk. However, I have a MacBook Air and never needed to buy an external dvd drive...
