...and once againg it it amazing what a cool peace of software we get to try out through mac heist. I did not have to do anything with videorecording, whatsoever, but i made some short clips with boinx of myself talking some gibberish and playing around with the layers. it is amazing how good the results are and how easy it is to actually produce a good looking tv/screencast in no time. no afterediting, no insertion of effects. everything is done on the go.

and i really do miss the FW port on my new macbook now for future purposes...

thanks mh and boinx!

Really stupid question. I am trying to take an existing video and overlay effects, etc. onto it. When I play back the video in BoinxTV, the video plays but not the audio,  I have actually gotten the audio as well as the video to play,so I know that the software is working correctly, but I don't know how I did.  What is the proper procedure to do this? Thanks.

Did you perhaps turn down the volume in the placer ?

http://www.orku.net/~thor/boinxtvplacer.png

Also, on the top right, there's a volume control, and a place where you can mute playthrough and select the audio output device...

Oh, and a hint for all BoinxTV users - turn OFF all possible means of turning on the dashboard before you start recording.

Accidentally turning on the dashboard sends BoinxTV into framedrop-land, and you don't want that on your recording neutral

Tenex,

I understand that discreet graphics are better but, if apple replaced (in the new 2009 iMac) the ATI 4200 with the Nvidia 9400, then surely the new Nvidia is better? Or am i missing something?

Thanks,
Mike

WhiteFang already replied (sorry I missed your post) but this is a perfect example of how most of the current iMacs have been emasculated by Apple.

The USB camcorders don't deliver their live signal over USB, so they are not usable with BoinxTV. The only USB based devices that work are webcams.
To gat a live video signal you either need a Firewire Camcorder, a USB webcam or a S-Video Converter like the XLR8 Interview and the Analog output cable of the camcorder.

This is the second time you've asked pretty much the same thing.

See this thread for BoinxTV and this thread for all other apps, including ones not pertaining to MacHeist.

Hey MacHeisters, got a quick question to see if anyone has tested the XLR8 XtraView with BoinxTV?  I have a Canon HF100 HD Cam & it seems the only way I could possibly use it for live video production on a MacBook Unibody (for the kid's football games) is to use this product.  I will buy the XLR8 if it works with BoinxTV.  Basically, BoinxTV will simplify my post production of the game dramatically by doing all the scores overlays & time keeping in realtime.  I don't need anything over 640x480 (720x480 preferred) cause I will be burning the video to DVD anyways.

If nobody knows if it will work, can anyone offer up any other solutions to use BoinxTV & my HD Cam?

Thanks in advance!
ASHUTA

Thanks Oliver!  I have a macbook (unibody) without DV (firewire) though...  Looks like a converter that uses USB is the only solution.  Anyone else have any ideas?  Thanks!

Anybody have any idea how to get PowerPoint/Keynote AND external output on a MacBook Pro 13" Unibody?  I have an external monitor but if I use that for PowerPoint there's no way to get the video out to the video board, and if I use the monitor for output there's no way to get PowerPoint.  It's a tricky situation, but maybe someone can figure out the solution.  If there was a Quartz Composer plugin for BoinxTV that could read PowerPoint or Keynote files, all my problems would be solved.  But alas, I don't think any exist.

I'm just getting around to installing the app, but the license doesn't seem to work. Is it time-limited? How do I get a new one?

have you installed it before? your license should work, but if you have a new mac for example you should have deactivated it on the old one first.

--> contact boinx directly, as no one here can help you with this matter.

I was wondering if BoinxTV would be right for my church. What we do is we capture/record the message with 2 HD cameras to which we do live switching. We currently use Video Toaster 5. Can this be done in Boinx? Also we would have lower thirds and stuff that would need to be added in.

I would pose this question to someone at Boinx TV support: http://boinx.com/boinxtv/support/

They have know the capabilities of the software much better than us, and should be able to point you in the right direction!

Yes, it is ideal for church broadcasts. We use lower thirds, and insert text for praise and worship service where lyrics are needed.
