i never understood the point of speculating like this.  There's not much use in it.  Most of it has little basis, and all it does is get people expecting it on some day that they probably shouldn't.

No, I don't think so.  I'm on here quite a few times a day, just to see what's going on in the heist world.  I just think its lame to get on here and make weak speculations that are little more than guesses as to when the next heists will start.  It's almost like nagging at the directorate for another one.  Just hang out, chat IRC, enjoy your time in the forums, or help develop some user-created heist.

We're trying to cook up a really amazing heist for you guys, something worthy of a finale. As for timing, just ask yourselves this. What time of the year in the Mac community would be ideal for a ridiculous heist? wink

do you mean you think it's more likely to happen ono Christmas day?

Well, assuming that most of the mac community is christian, christmas would be a special event for almost everyone.
Of course, since I'm jewish, I won't be doing anything that night, giving me a potential head start on the heist *snicker* *snicker*

Thats one thing I never understood. I'm an atheist (don't believe in gods) and I celebrate christmas. Its a stately holiday, why are jewish people always so offended when you wish htme a merry christmas... I mean all we do is put on our goat costumes and dance around the burning tree...
Unless goat-costume-dancing is forbidden by your religion I really can't see a reason why not. I mean, you do celebrate your birthday right? What makes this different? (Unless you don't want to give presents away again after you've had Hannuka that is. That would be a worthy excuse)

Ummm.... when did I say that I didn't like christmas?
Also, my parents sort of forced judaism on me, when I get to college, I will never visit a temple again (excepting other people's bar mitzvahs, weddings, etc.).
And no, christmas is NOT a stately holiday.  You are specifically celebrating the birth of christ, which does not have anything to do with the US of A.  Also, there is this little thing called separation of church and state...
Edit: Anyways, back to the point: I hope it's soon, at least before I have to go back to school

I'm sorry to say you are very uninformed.  Christmas is a national holiday here in the United States of America.

This proves only that we nationally recognize Christmas as a holiday.  Again, this is because the United States was founded and runs on primarily Christian principles.  Just because the United States as a nation celebrates the holiday does not mean Christmas has anything to do with America.  You seemed to be the uninformed one here.  The meaning of Christmas was not shaped in any way by the United States' politics or its history.

I'm sorry, I don't celebrate the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. I celebrate having the whole family here and *random cheesy line about families goes here*.
No, I don't live in the US, christmas is a stately holiday almost everywhere. Ask your self this: What does a Tree, a fat man dressed in red (or a man in a goat costume if you live in sweden) have to do with religion?
The prophet Jesus was born, its religious blah blah. If somebody made a holiday on the day Gandhi was born you would celebrate it right? You celebrate the birth of a man who helped many others and for some odd reason decided it would be nice to die a slow and painfull death, not a religious icon or deity.

I'm really sorry, I totally respect your views and what you're saying makes a lot of sense. It's really too bad that America and some other countries celebrate Christmas with a load of frienzied consumerism.....

Big fat man in red coat = Saint nick
Saint nick = religion (specifically, christianity)

I agree that it has turned into somewhat of commercial holiday, but its still celebrating the birth of christ.  And, flaming words, you just admitted that you don't celebrate christmas, so I don't get what your trying to say...
About the Ghandi part, yes, I would celebrate it because he hs helped the world in many secular ways.  Jesus, not so much.

Uh... this thread has gotten pretty off-topic! I think we all agree Xmas originates from the christian religion, but has somewhat turned into a "universal" holiday even for atheists who live in a county where christianity is/was predominant (US, Canada, Europe, etc.). End of discussion? I hope so...

Anybody else have estimates for when heist 6 will come out? tongue From what Phill said, I think it would seem to be Macworld Expo, although I see a couple of problems with that: much of the team will be in SF and will have other things to do than run a heist, while we will all be trying to watch Apple's keynote or, even worse (depending on how you look at it wink), at the Expo. So maybe Xmas or New Year, though I won't be at my computer at Xmas, that's for sure!

Anyway, it'll be something like this, or maybe when something happens with windows. or maybe on an aniversary of some mac date that i am oblivious to - anyone know when the first lisa was sold? etc etc

I hate to steal your thunder, but Xmas does not originate from christian religion. In fact it originates in the winter solstice, when ancient inhapitants of the northen hemisphere celebrated the coming of light. IE. the day got longer and the winter had gotten so much shorter. Jews still celebrate the coming of lights, hannucha (did I get it spelled right ?). In Scandinavia and Iceland its still called Jul, Jule or Jól depending on where you live. Christmas is merely an adaptation of this festival to christian religion designed to ease the transittion from paganism to christianity. And that is that.

Nope.  It is not called "hannucha."  Hanukkah or Chanukah or ????? (Does this forum support Hebrew?) (NOPE) your choice.

Christmas has a pagan origin. Look it up. Has nothing to do with religion.
