Redownload it from your loot and your MacHeist registration code works with the older version.

Too bad they did this, though.

Hopefully it was an error that gets fixed quickly.  Thanks for the warning - I was looking forward to 1.0.2!

They mentioned they were working on some anti-piracy stuff to go in 1.0.2 - apparently someone from MH must have shared their license or something?  I'd like to shoot whoever it was . .  .

I think that the licenses are all different (because of different names/email address). But they're apparently still activated if I could re-register the older version.

And version 1.0.2 looked weird. Everything was different from the previous version, and it somehow added $300.00 to my balance.

The least they could have done was told us that the keys were only for the beta.

Well... It turns out that they configured Sparkle.framework to stuff the old version in the trash. So. I just dragged it out and started again. I was really looking forward to 1.0.2. I really wanted to take advantage of the Bill Manager now that it was supposedly fixed.

zackkitzmiller, I do IM.  Hit me with a PM or (preferably) an email.

Yeah, Juan (the developer) said he is feverishly working on getting all the MH licenses working again.  Bummer for him - man, he's going to be glad when he can get a break, I bet!

Still, I bet he knew things were going to get hot and stay that way for a bit when he released 1.0 - I hope he knew that, anyway.  smile

As someone who started out being skeptical of Cha-Ching (and highly critical) -- I don't even own a web cam -- I've been very pleasantly surprised by it's development.

As someone who donated to Juan's DevZOT!, I'm still wondering whether or not this is his "Next App" we were supposed to receive as a thanks.

+1

I will be buying an additional Cha-Ching license at some point, even though I have the MH license.  I think the stuff he's doing is worth paying for.  (I think I'm sort of waiting until I'm using it to at least mostly manage my money though.  smile  )

hey guys, i emailed Juan, the main dev in charge of Cha Ching and he is his reply!

Macheist Winners,

I am so sorry for the inconvenience. You are in no way banned from using Cha-Ching. Unfortunately I had to add anti-piracy controls in the latest version because of the rampant torrenting of serial generators for Cha-Ching.

The users that got Cha-Ching from the Macheist giveaway have not been entered into our database. I am personally scrambling to enter all of you guys into our database. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.

If there is any other concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at jalvarez AT midnightapps.com. Thanks.

Yeah, I saw the free updates for life thing as well, and I don't see why they're not honoring it.  It was their mistake.  You can't tell millions of people that and then just say, "Oops, actually we didn't mean..."  C'mon now.  That'd be like your local car dealer saying they were giving you $4,000 off of any new purchase and then they call you 20 minutes later and say, "Oops, actually we meant to say $2,000."

What a load of bs...  Also, it's again not my problem you forgot about the mh licenses being in a separate database... FIX IT!  I use cha-ching all the time and was expecting a better response than this.

I do not believe in "free-for-life" licenses. They defeat the very nature of software development, and continued development. "Fair-and-equitable" is a much better software fee system.

Still not fixed - but apparently it's because they are actually waiting on a list from MH.  That is from a comment on the midnight apps blog.  So hopefully MH can shoot the bundle purchase list back over to Juan et al pretty quickly!

Er, Cha-Ching wasn't part of the bundle, it was loot. So MH needs to send over the list of all the people who completed that mission. A considerably longer list, I'd imagine.

On another note, there's hints that 1.0.3 will support OFX format - not that it helps MH'ers until the license thing is sorted out.

I've already switched to using Money since I got it with the Friday the 13th ZOT.  I'd rather have something that lets me keep working instead of this blame game.  Both MH and the developer could have done something to keep people using the software daily running, but neither has gone the extra mile.  The developer of Money has been more than responsive with things about his software so I guess Cha-Ching has gone Ker-Plunk for me.

What does that have to do with the situation?
The “free ride” was courtesy of Cha-Ching and MacHeist. Some people are using the software based on expectations that it will work and is upgradeable. This has not been the case, the solution has been identified and is a simple one, yet the situation has not been solved.

I wouldn’t even say that anyone has to go the extra mile. It‘s just basic professionalism.

Seriously give them a break, the reason they had to change all the serial numbers is because a KeyGen was made.  I bet they had to completely remake the activation system, and in turn disabling the MacHeist keys.

Give who a break? If what has been posted is correct, the Cha-Ching people are just waiting on a list from MacHeist. This thread began 9 days ago.
I don’t use Cha-Ching so this doesn’t affect me, but I can imagine how some people feel.

It's not such a simple solution, as you put it.

The problem is that we'd have to give out the email list of all the people who solved the particular heist it was in to the Cha-Ching people. From our point of view, we've gone to great lengths to protect the emails of the people registered at MacHeist so it'd be a violation of your trust of us. All the relevant MacHeist Directorate members discussed the possibilities at length and ultimately we felt it wasn't in the overall interest of the MacHeist members to send all the email addresses to them.

It's a fine line we're walking on here as obviously lots of you want to keep Cha-Ching working so I'm sure you'd be glad to give your email address to them. But for the rest of the people who received it in their loot and aren't using it...that's where the problem arises. Again, we value your trust and would never do anything to jeopardize it so we have somewhat of a stalemate situation.

It's too bad the Cha-Ching people had to put in product activation as this is what led us to this situation. Hopefully they'll be able to come up with a reasonable solution to this issue soon.

Phill should've explained this here DAYS ago but I guess he's busy with other things. hmm

We were told that 1.0 was what we got - we've been supporting a product that, when first given, was truly in beta by any definition.  Many have stated and others have probably felt that they'd definitely buy 2.0 based on the fact that the devs were nice enough to give us 1.0 (which I did assume meant nitty point releases too).  I was in that camp until this.  So this wouldn't have been a free ride come 2.0 but definitely speaking with my wallet on this.  It is fully in the dev's power to rectify this, and it was also in the Directorate's power but the latter has already stated their case about privacy so it now lays fully in the hands of the developer that has provided only form letter answers and no tangible progress to the end user for too long a time, regardless of how we got this program.  1Passwd was the epitome of a giving developer regardless of it starting as a "free ride" and I've already opened my wallet to them willingly.  I know that if a problem like this had occurred with their software, we'd have already been taken care of.

I had an app from another bundle that I kept without gifting, though I could have due to using Cha-Ching but I must have some sixth sense tucked away in the cobwebs.  So I'm switching back to it, for good.  I don't need pictures of my crap in my financial program anyway.

To summarize, I figured paying for 2.0 at an equivalent inflated price similar to 1.0 was going to be worth it to me and to me was pretty much paying what I thought 1.0 was worth + what 2.0 was likely worth as well.  If I paid $40 for the combination of 1.0 plus a full upgrade to 2.0 when out (not $40 now, plus whatever the upgrade may cost) I might think it was *just* worth that.

Thanks for your response, johnred, it was helpful to hear how the situation was looking. But it doesn't seem to leave those of us who are using Cha-Ching with anywhere to go. Is there something any of us can do to try and get access to the app again? It's been 10 days now, and I'd really like access back to all those details of my money.

There's also one more thing I don't understand: surely the Cha-Ching people have all our email addresses anyway, from when they first issued the licences? Or is that not how this works?

Lastly, I almost feel bad for complaining about a free app. But then I use it, daily, to keep track of my money. I hadn't planned on having to pay for a licence until 2.0, so I frankly can't afford it at the moment. But I can't help thinking in the back of my mind that had I paid for a licence, there would be no stalling. Before all this I was set on getting 2.0, but now I'm not sure I have a great confidence in customer service down at Cha-Ching. Please do the right thing!

Apologies for the rant, I'm just in a slight state of disbelief at how difficult this all seems to be.

I guess I'm not the only one wondering where that Magic podcast from Juan is. Just thought I missed it smile

Also in regards to 1passwd - I not only bought my lic, I got a family lic I liked it so much. I wish more devs had those (family lic). There are times where if I like a product enough to purchase it, I'd be willing to pay a little more so I can legally operate it on both my home machine and laptop. Case in point - 1passwd, Overflow, Omniweb.
I'd put AppZapper and Disco on there too but I have 3 or 4 single lics that I either bought or got as part of a bundle.
