I'm getting really confused. I've been following this since Friday morning. I know we had to find the key, and then all the briefings appeared on the SkunkWorks... but is there something that has to be done by us? All I can tell is that the basic storyline is that Macpdate is trying to copy the bundle sale. Could someone help me out? Please?
Thanks in advance.

BTW-the wiki doesn't make sense to me either, as it doesn't seem to have anything current.

So I've got this little problem of not having a power adapter for my iBook at the moment because mine burned out last night and that was the computer I registered on and it no longer has a charge...

That sucks, man. You should still be able to get a power adapter for your 'book if there's an Apple retailer nearby. Won't be cheap, though. If you look around on the ehMac classifieds someone was selling a compatible MacAlly adapter for a fairly cheap price, though.

Not much is happening now - elections are being held for a community position (I guess analagous to forum mod) over at the Skunk Works. I think Jacqui Cheng from Ars Technica lost out to someone else from the forums.

For those of you left out in the cold, over at the Skunk Works:

http://www.mupromo.com/

At 10pm (eastern), MacUpdate will begin unveiling the applications that make up the MacUpdate Promo bundle. The bundle will sell at a ridiculously low price. Be there in IRC chat to win a free bundle (download IRC client).

Their page pretty much is identical to the "leaked prototype" screenshot we got in our first SW email last week.

I'm guessing that this "heist" will have some kind of plot twist which will end up with the Directorate making peace with Joel and MU in exchange for a limited bundle discount or something for the active MH members.

I already ordered a new one from OWC, but it won't be at my house until about Wednesday.  There's no way that I'm buying another Apple-branded one.

What model is your iBook? I have a 2002 G3 iBook, and the last time I brought it to a certified Apple repair centre, I noticed that they gave me a new power adapter (the ones included with the G4 iBooks) even though mine was working just fine.

It makes me wonder if there was an issue with the early white brick power adapters that Apple isn't admitting.

well, apprently, for two days, the mupromo gets redirected to macheist.com/mupromo

so everyone who buys then gets the extra apps.

I have a 2005 iBook G4.  There's a problem with all of the white brick power adapters that Apple hasn't fessed up to.  Do a search about it and you'll learn.

To me, Skunkworks just doesn't seem to be that much fun.  I'm not all that enthralled by it and I could care less for another bundle.  The only time I'd buy the bundle is if Little Snitch AND TechTool Pro are both unlocked.

Can someone clear this up.  The Macupdate guys and the MacHeist guys are obviously in on this together, but does this mean that this bundle is the MacHeist 2 bundle?  Or is it completely separate?

Personally, I think this particular bundle (the MU one/MH enhanced one) is fairly poorly judged.  It's an odd mix of apps, some of which share functionality (even more so when you consider the beta invites, it's another image editor!) and many of which have better alternatives out there (Transmit anyone!?!?).  I don't feel the excitement I felt when buying the original MH bundle.

Please check the Wiki first. This is NOT MacHeist 2. The Directorate has told us that MH2 is coming later this year. The MacHeist SkunkWorks is a different entity entirely.

The value level will obviously depend on the person - I found the bundle compelling because of Nanosaur 2, iClip and DeliciousLibrary - the rest was just additional bonuses for me (NewsFire and TextMate are also what got me hooked, though it wouldn't have killed it for me if we didn't get them).

This bundle is compelling for me because of GraphicConverter, and Amadeus Pro; LittleSnitch would be nice too. Also, don't forget the other stuff that The Directorate is offering as well.

Well, what is the free secret app?   Since we are on the insde already, shouldn't we know?

As for the apps, everywhere I've read that if your install Tech Tols Pro, the eDrive will screw your startup items such that only Disk Warrior will fix it and allow your cpu to start again.... after that, TTP works like a charm until another problem arises!  Now, if we're talking about the TT Protege, that's a whole 'nother thing, a whole-hearted "YEAH, that's the ticket!"

As for Fetch & Flow, I already have YummyFTP (from MAAD) and CaptainFTP (from here).  What do the two F's offer over the others?  And what do they offer over Forklift?

The graphics programs: we got DrawIt from here, and I have Skitch Beta (through TUAW), not to mention the free GIMPshop and some other assorted photo/image apps -- why would someone need Intaglio, Pixelmator, and Graphic Converter?

As for Cocktail, I already have Mac Pilot (and the entire Koingo line-up), whose tagline is "Enable Hidden Features. It's not just a drink — it's the whole meal!"

Still leaves a lot to consider -- I'll have a better idea after I see the MacPak's "SuperPak" and if someones "leaks" the secret app.

I remain, I swear to God, amazed that MacHeist didn't include something from RixStep in this. Or is that why it's secret?

Thing is, if RixStep were involved, the bundle would only have ACP and Clix in it, as they'd swear up and down that you could do everything in those apps using just their CLI tools.*

(*And they'd actually be right to an extent - but in the process of telling you they'd be right they'd be shredding to pieces just about every other Mac developer out there... wink)

I will say though that the only not-so-hot one out of the bunch for me is Fetch; Fetch Softworks will actually give you a free registration code if you provide proof that you're a student, and on top of that my university already provides the full version of Fetch as a free download (which I only discovered afterward).

Well, the topic in the IRC chat is currently set to:

email within 36 hours of purchase. stop asking.

I don't want to sound too pissy, as it hasn't been 24 hours since I purchased the bundle, but that topic struck me as really rude considering each of us has just spent $50 on the bundle.  It would have been a lot nicer if there had been a post on the skunkworks page (with a nice backstory to explain the delay), or a post here explaining things in a nicer way.

Considering that many of the "old-guard" here had to wait several months for Heist 5.5/Heist 6, long after it was originally promised (and with little or no information from anyone), it's something we're used to. hmm

Don't worry though. If The Directorate could come through with Heist 5.5/6, they'll come through with the email for the extra apps.

rampancy,
I'm part of the "old-guard," bought my original MacHeist bundle, and waited for Heist 5.5/Heist 6 along with the rest of you.  I'm not worried that we won't receive the e-mails, I was merely commenting that the blunt, rude topic title for the IRC channel is not the correct way to disseminate information regarding a purchase.

Yeah, and we don't even know IF the emails will come in 36 hours. They didn't come within 24 hours, so should we trust them again this time? For all we know, the time could keep increasing in increments of 50% until we are all old geezers.

But really, I do trust them to deliver the apps. It probably was only a minor glitch.

...and since I got the whole darn bundle for free, I think I have no reason to be upset. tongue
