If you have finished heist 2, you have probably seen the little envelope in the safe door:
That links to http://mhstatic.com/inbox/8382/thebox.zip, which, once unzipped, contains 8 images of an alleged "reality distortion field generator." It also contains a PDF file with the following description:
The RDF ("Reality Distortion Field") generator is a device that can be used to influence, or overtly control, the emotions of nearby subjects. The device operates by "tuning" beta waves in the brain. The RDF's internal mechanics were designed by Apple engineer Ian Bradford, during the early 90's, The revolutionary creation underwent design and development quietly for nearly a decade. However, it was dismantled in the late 90's once Jobs made his return and Apple's financial situation began to improve. The RDF generator can be tuned to several frequencies, and has been shown in studies to trigger a wide range of emotions, including fear, anxiety, pleasure, and anticipation. As it is such a potent device, the project has been kept under wraps at the highest level of secrecy within Apple. Only top level Apple Executives are even aware of the project's existence, let alone details on what exactly it is. Apple's internal studies have focused on the positive use of RDF, and research has demonstrated that proper use of the machine can improve sales yield by over 500%, with customer satisfaction guaranteed for hours after the exposure. Recently, there has been renewed interest in the RDF machine from within Apple. New iterations of the device have been utilized at recent Apple press events and keynotes, including the launch of the iPhone. Should information of the RDF be compromised, and put in the wrong hands, Apple will not survive the resulting PR fallout. This cannot be allowed to happen.
I posted this earlier this week but there was a conspiracy theory about an experiment in on a Naval vessel in Philadelphia during the 1940s.
Anyways, they used an RFD there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Experiment
Dr. Franklin Reno - maybe that is the scientist

But on a more serious note:

Another Hitchiker's reference
"Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem" - all things being equal, the least complicated of all solutions is the preferable one (Occam's Razor).
I think these are clues to the big picture - the main heist - whether they are relevent to Mission 3 they are clearly very important - it is said the the supposed RDF work in the 40s and 50s was based on Einstein's theories.
It's easier than you think to be a little greener
I think nre999 is on to something with that wikipedia reference for "reality distortion field"

I must be one of the few who aren't looking for connections between different things for the RDF and just accepting it as the RDF got stolen. In case some of you don't know, the RDF has been a long running joke within the Mac community...
I agree. It's probably just a plot development, just like when we saw it in the first place and thought it was an Apple Design Award.

It's worth pointing out that the RDF joke was coined in the early part of Apple's history (late 70's-early 80's?) - the only people who'd get it now are the truly grizzled Apple veterans (the ones who cut their teeth on IIc's and Performa 475's) and Apple nerds like me who will never get laid.

I agree on this, that is why I posted the link in my previous post to the wikipedia entry for the joke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reality_distortion_field).
I just thought it was ironic that I was throwing out rabbit trails yesterday and came across the RDF stuff with the Philadelphia Experiment.
If you look back to the original threads you can see a great deal of stuff pointing to Mr. Jobs. The address being set at 1 Infinite loop... The RDF (which was a joke about Jobs personality).
What if Apple is in on this?
I stand by what my signature says
EDIT: BTW anyone see the movie "The Philadelphia Experiment"? Not so good.

Well, considering that I'm of the latter - in fact, you named two of my first computers there - maybe that's why I'm not being so analytical about it. And to think, I'm a grizzled veteran at the age of 20. I've lived through the tough years...
Ok, so if we look at the back "logic.jpg" image we can now clearly see a large-ish mag-connect power cord, a cat-5 ethernet port and the power button.
The mag-connect power looks odd to me, though. It's larger than a typical version and has no charge light indicator. May not be plugged in?
If I am not mistaken, that's the same logic board used to solve the "Woz-Jobs-Ive" puzzle.
The flat rectangle up toward the front may be a hard drive of some sort.
No idea what the four small flat boxes up front are. They look like some sort of media readers, though we have no shot from the front to show what that looks like.
So are there three units? One for Jobs, one for Woz and one for Ive?

of course you mean "magsafe", right?
The second comment on this thread was about the flux capacitor. Remember that in the original BTTF, it was a bolt of lightning that they needed to jumpstart the DeLorean.
All these references to lightning etc....maybe the scientist is Doctor Emmett Brown?

Er, ya, I did. I need more cold meds. And more coffee.

Heh, not so sure. When I looked at it, the thought "where's the flux capacitor go?" immediately jumped into my head, too. I think it's a standard and overused electronics joke.

of course, our scientist is dead, and Doc Brown is most decidedly alive...and hawking Direct TV.
Sometimes I feel so blue
It makes me twitter.
About the Jobs-Woz-Ives puzzle, if the logic board in the RDF is the same as the logic board in those, then we are most likely looking at a fourth RDF. If that is the case then it would stand to reason that part of htis whole thing would be to figure out who it is that we are trying to find - i.e. who the fourth device was created for.

What's wrong with the power consumption. With a few of these it would work. After all the Air Force is hiding this so anything is possible.

This is the guy, Bud Tribble, who "coined the term" Reality Distortion Field. He is (at least one of) the fathers of UNIX and NeXT. He is however, as far as I can tell, still alive and working in software tech, maybe for Apple, maybe not.

Hmm.... interesting work on the images and the envelope. Will be neat to see what happens with this.

I guess it wouldn't make sense to have both Ive and Wayne, because Wayne was from the very beginning and Ive is pretty recent.

nre999 wrote:anyone notice that Cypy's avatar looks like PC from the Mac/PC commercials?
That's because it is the PC from the "Get A Mac" commercials (John Hodgman)
Well that explains it.
Ever notice that John Hodgman looks like a grown up Malcolm in the middle.
Ever notice that Malcolm is spelled oddly?

This is a maxiheist, as opposed to last year's miniheists.
Looks like between missions get more clues to this maxiheist!
Even the missions seem to have a cube theme!!!
If you look closely at the board in the box, you will notice two of the boards are in there, maybe all three!!! One of the two looks like it has the blue fluid?!
Something fishy around here
