I was playing around with the stuff in the box.zip file and opened up the RFD.pdf file with a hex editor.
I found a reference to an author tag of "Ian Bradford"

So I googled this Ian Bradford and found a musician link. On this webpage is a link named "Puzzled"
It brings up this puzzle:

The musician's website is: http://tinyurl.com/2xb69h
The puzzle addy is: http://tinyurl.com/yu826u
Is this all a coincidence?
EDIT: Mod fixed up the links for you. PM us if you need help again, and thanks for the contributions.
Sorry my account is too new to post addresses. Replace the (DOT) with a . and place the h t t p : / / in front of the tinyurls.
edit: I focused on the musician because of the guitars in the 2nd mission.
No I am not uploading a silly purple avatar. Stop PM'ing me about it!
I cant get the friggin puzzle to come out right. this is frustrating. Of course it is 6 in the morning >:-o haha
Nothing happens when you solve the puzzle!
Just a option to play it again!
EDIT: Mod fixed link.
Somewhere in the heavens... they are waiting
I get the same thing. Only the option to try again.

I've attempted the puzzle twice, and found it unsolvable. Before you call me stupid, I worked it into the following position to prove that it is in fact unsolvable.

This is a famous puzzle... which cannot be solved.

edit: refreshed, and got one that is in fact solvable. his code for generating the puzzle must not check for unsolvable starting positions (which is about half of the starting positions physically possible).
I think that the mini heist kicked off whenever the main one was solved. Also I think they were harder than the regular ones.
Hmmm, another Ian Bradford, this time, a scientist...

I don't know that this is a mini heist. I was just poking around with a hex editor and thought it strange that I found a name in only this file.
It still could be nothing.

That musician's site has apparently been around since 2003 - so yeah, a rabbit trail. Doesn't mean there's not a MH version Ian out there though...
Whistle while you work. Patience is key.
hehe So should I email Ian Bradford, the musician, and apologize for blowing up his bandwidth by starting this rabbit chase? I hope everyone that read this thread didn't load his site 10 or 15 times.
Mods: Can you delete the links in my original post removing the link to this guy's page?

It also says that that page was last updated in June.. quite awhile ago.

Old versions of the Macintosh System Software came with that game included on the Apple menu, but it used to have a big Apple logo instead of the numbers.
#include <unistd.h>
#include <netinet/in.h>
void main(){int p=ntohl(0x6E696E65);int q[]={p,ntohl(0x7479),p,0xA};write(1,&q,0x10);}
I don't know... all the Macheist related pages look so nice. But maybe
Yeah, really... They're all really cool looking, except for that heist a while back where that guy's website had origami on it and we printed the origami to find the next step or whatever...

I don't remember what prizes we got for that one, but I remember that - where we had to make our own paper balloon with the numbers on it for the code to the vault. ![]()

The other ian bradford site, (ianbradford.com) was posted in the backroom during mission 2, although I can't remember what it was connected to. Anyway, I checked the internet archive and it's been up since 2002, so another wild goose chase :-)
EDIT: I did a forum search, and it actually turned up after the heist. Ian Bradford, according to the box pdf, is the designer of the distortion field.
That's what struck me funny, why would the inventor of the RDF mentioned in the pdf be the author of the pdf clue.
This was my first step down the rabbit trail
