Because that would require work. They won't work if they don't have to - the heists are purely for fun, not for 'earning' anything.
Edit: Am I older than Warbrain? Let me check...looks like we registered on the same day, but I didn't post on the forums for a day. He has a much higher post count because he spammed a bunch to get to 1000 or some absurd number, if I remember correctly.
Edit 2: Edit deleted for pointlessness.
Edit 3: I actually read the whole thread now, and here is my official response:
1. The fact that some guy said it on the wiki doesn't obligate anyone else.
2. You seem to hold the delusion that we are somehow obligated to go through the motions in order to 'earn' the software. On the contrary, the relatively open nature of the heists and the existence of the Backroom suggest that the heists are purely for fun. The devs are giving their software away as a promotion, there's no reason to think that it will somehow hurt them if we don't bother doing the heists.
3. Age matters not. Let 'em figure it out for themselves, things will move along with or without the rabid speculation.
I, for one, will be doing some of the heists, when I have the time. So far, though, I've cheated because I don't have the time to hang around on the forums.
Maybe I hate everything. Or maybe I just hate you.
If there's a problem here, how about letting those running the promotion worry about it? This thread has existed long enough that I'm sure it's been brought to their attention and I wouldn't be surprised if they simply moved on to another thread.
Some good points have already been pointed out but one I didn't see is pretty simple...guys, this has all been done before both in the promotion itself and someone just posting the code. You're kidding yourself if you think that this is the first time this has been done. Those boasting about how long they've been on this forum and involved in MacHeist should realize this with all of that worldly MacHeist/forum experience.
That said leave it up to the promoters. Some might say they should program the puzzles and such using cookies to track who's really doing the challenges. No matter what gets done though someone, somewhere will figure out how to cheat the system and post it. In the end the question is whether it's worth the hassle to fight or even worry about it. The real point to this seems to be to have fun and promote software based on this and the previous MacHeist.

Everybody be cool.
MacHeist is about having fun figuring out puzzles, then getting free stuff and a good deal on more stuff later. It's about staying up too late, or sneaking in time while the boss isn't looking. It's about an online community of all kinds of people working on a solution. (I'd like to teach the world to sing...)
I'm with Warbrain, although not in the Punisher, kill-em-all sense (not that zealotry is bad or anything - stay strong!) Posting the code somewhere else is kind of lame - at least show some respect for the folks who've gone through the trouble of putting this all together. How muck work is it, really, to go to page 24 of a spoiler thread?
New people! The clues will come, for all heists, big and small. Be patient. VERY patient. And enjoy the loot.
Meow meow meow meow
knds- Thank you. Hopefully you can find a kind heister to help you out with those walk throughs. Also, I would be interested to hear if the directorate have contacted you or if you have gotten any complaints from higher up.
You're scum. Nothing but a low-life. I suspect that you're a cheat in real life as well.
Wow, Settle down you cow.
Going from this:
Don't create a blog just to get traffic to your own site. post the walkthrough here.
to this:

Warbrain, I have to say you're way out of line with your ad-hominem attacks on the OP. There's a nice way to disagree with someone, and then there's what you did. Seriously, chill the f**k out.
What knds is doing is appreciated. I participated in last year's event and completed most of the heists on my own, but it's nice to have a one-stop place to just get the loot when I don't feel like jumping through hoops for a bit of shareware.
I now have a signature.
I have updated the blog with the latest entry on Mission 3:

The code is now blacked out, so those of you who visit the site unaware of it will not read it accidentally. You should highlight it in order to read it.

Still being a punk, aren't you? Why don't you stop and just post the walkthrough instead of letting people steal the software.

Its no different than going to page 16 of the spoiler alert mission 3 thread.
If MH Directorate didn't want people "stealing" the software (this is a heist right?) then they wouldn't allow codes to be posted on the backroom, but they do allow it and the codes are posted. You can just skip to the end of those threads if you don't feel like doing the puzzles.
All's quiet in the Amazon.

Always bashing me in some way, aren't you?
Hi everyone,
I'm really new here and I find these personal attacks a real shame; the sense of community is kicked in the rear everytime someone decides to have a go at someone else.
Warbrain - perhaps if you worded some of your comments differently, then you wouldn't rub people up the wrong way? I think swearing at someone else and calling them a whore is not going to win you any friends?
Someone has already put over the point very well that there will be those that want to enact every last detail of a heist, those that just want the software and a miriad of people in between. Likewise, this notion of "earning the software" will be held to varying degrees in the same way.
I think the heists are a great idea, but the bottom line is that this is driven from a commercial standpoint. Get as many people using your software as possible and increase the numbers likely to buy again. Nothing wrong with that approach, that's just how it is.
I think posting walkthroughs after the event is a great idea to help those that need it.
Posting the code is fine if it saves wading through pages & pages of posts. People can take what they want to move forward; what's wrong with that?
I don't have the time (or skill) to go through everything - heck it's impossible if you're in Europe because of the time difference. I managed to stay up to 03.00 this morning and just had to give up.
Bottom line - please chill out everyone!
Thank you

Warbrain, you do understand that a Heist is a theft and not a treasure hunt or something.
You're simply playing on words - if you don't realize that the point of MacHeist is to actually DO the heists, then you're a fool. Either that, or there's absolutely no sense in arguing with you because you'd much rather cheat that learn. You can't be convinced otherwise because you're not interested in the truth, but only that which suits you. You would rather spend your energy arguing how it's OK to cheat than spend the same energy exercising your brain and gaining a sense of accomplishment in addition to your loot. You're selling yourself short, and that's your own problem.
Guys, it's best we leave this alone. If they're going to cheat, let them. It's become clear that there is no way to stop it, and no way to convince _some_ people that it's better to work for it (and that this is the obvious intent).

The fact remains that just posting the codes on your own personal Blogger/Wordpress/MoveableType page completely invalidates the whole point of MacHeist in the first place...which is to, you know do missions, or at least do something in order to get the reward. For a spoiler page, he doesn't even provide something resembling a walkthrough, which is what he would have done if he actually would have bothered to post something useful.
Otherwise, why didn't John and Phill just put up a blank page with some download links? Why spend all of that time lavished on the heists? As anyone involved with the user-created heist efforts like iHeist and theAmazon will tell you, doing stuff like this is a lot of goddamn work.
It's like not bothering to read the Harry Potter series and just being satisfied with the "Voldemort did x"-type of spoilers which were going around the web after the last book came out.

Dude, calm down. Its not our job to be rude to the customers.

You're giving Macheist a bad name. Grow up or get out.
How many times do I need to say this: take the bickering between us private. Don't do it out here.

Then dont be a jackass out here unless you enjoy the customers deriding you like they were in the IRC thread.

I highly suggest you go and read what I put elsewhere and understand what is actually going on.
It's obvious that the two of you have a personal rift, but seriously - if all of this is over knds, then I have a suggestion in the spirit of mediation - squash it. Who cares if it's right or not - if the Directorate hasn't banned it, then let it go. Part of being a moderator is that people may tend to confuse your personal opinions w/"policy" of the site. Also, the two of you fighting in public is really killing my buzz. Be gentlemen - take it outside.

Funny, I've been trying to tell him that we shouldn't bicker here, but he continues it. I want it to stop.
How about taking your disdain for folks like knds private as well?
Calling someone a whore for posting a shortcut and even the final solution does jack crap except make you look belligerent and unwelcoming... not to mention, you're a Mod who SHOULD be setting an example.
Two cannibals were eating a clown.
One cannibal said to the other...
"Does this taste funny to you?"

I agree completely. I tried to point this out to Warbrain in another thread that he needs to work on his tact but seems to just not get it. sigh
Of course he'll probably jump in here and claim I'm spamming up the very thread that he felt he needed to respond in repeatedly attempting to defend himself. ![]()

No Warbrain, I'm just pointing out that it isn't any different. Its just that the code is posted on an outside site. Everyone needs to get their panties out of the bunch they're in.

Precisely! If the directorate don't take issue and the people who don't want to play the game don't take issue, then what the bleep is everyone else's problem? Let the directorate be concerned with their intent and the effort they've put into this, let the freetards be concerned with the freebies they get and the fun they miss, and let the rest of us just enjoy the game.

+1 I'm done with this thread... can we lock it?
